I will be interesting to see...

1. How many will say cancelling/postponing was the wrong thing to do.
2. How many will say they dropped because "THSCC screwed up NCAC", but privately they dropped due to weather forecast.

Organizers are in a no-win situation at this point. :( Given forecast it was likely the right thing to do.

Wunderground is saying that Friday I will get 5.36 INCHES of rain at my house in Matthews (about 20 minutes from ZMax). Saturday and Sunday will be "light" rain with only 1.5 inches each  This was the right call, but as Richard and others have alluded to, somehow this will be a black eye on THSCC. - AB

This may not be a popular observation...

I was curious so I was reading the roadraceautox.com thread. The "fake" course map with the stop box was (still is) posted on the MSR registration page. And as much as many inside and outside of the club have been total dicks over all of this, I do think having that course map up on the official registration page was an unnecessary trolling of those who were already upset. I will say that sadly we deserved at a minimum some amount of the grief due to that. It's hard to claim the high road when doing something like that.

Damned if we do.....Damned if we don't........ I was so not looking forward to standing around in a torrential downpour and driving through 6" puddles. On the other hand I was really looking forward to how the CCR and Triad boys managed the stop box...

Not true that we share blame for posting the course map. There was no excuse for the immature crap that was posted by other clubs (I don't count people who don't attend events or participate in the club). Their actions in a public forum were immature and did not reflect well on the whole AX community in the state. We all take turns hosting and we all have to live with each others courses, rules and how they run the event. They acted like children and if they didn't get exactly what they wanted they would take their toys and go home. We gave in to all their demands for the most part just to get it over with and I really can't see how the course map with a obviously disingenuous stop box made everything they did OK, or make us equally guilty. You must believe that fault is administered like in negligence statutes.

Sometimes the best way to treat a bully is to hit back and this was just an attention getter. It is much nicer than some of the suggestions (see pine cone)

You lost me on the "Not True" part as I am not sure what that is commenting on.

Regarding the rest... I agree, no excuses for what was said by others. But... acting like them (bogus course map posted on official page). Funny or not. There is no way to defend that. Or at least if the defense is "they deserved it", then like I said... we lost/loose all credibility with any attempt at taking the high road (which frankly we were generally doing a great job under difficult conditions IMHO).

I don't want to re-open this up to more arguing, but felt it was an interesting item worth noting. Maybe it's too early and raw for feedback to be given on this.

RICHARD....stop being an arm chair quarterback. You WERE NOT in direct fire of these guys poking at you. So I was one of the people responsible for the stop box. That is my course for sunday, it was partially along with my co-chair. It was fake. I wanted to prove the point that they are zapping the fun out of this sport. Succubus like suck. I had plenty of serous autocross folks emailing me thanking for making this point. I can keep on explaining...but at this point it is not worth it anymore.

Let's not dwell on who did what.

Steve is right that AX should be fun, if not then why bother in the first place? I certainly don't do it for the money.

Some of the other clubs will say the rain coming is God's punishment for THSSC having a "crappy" course design.

And that is the first official statement I've seen that the stop box was not an actual element. (personally, I find it lame, but then *shrug* why not. Lumpy was made for stop boxes!) The entire explosion from seeing that map just drives home my absolute hatred of autocross. People take it far too seriously. If I'm at an autox, it's entirely for fun; I'm there to throw the car around. If the course is safe to drive and work, I really don't care how fast, slow, easy, or complex it is.

By contrast, I've loved doing rallyx. With the exception of a few non-members from DC, no one takes it all that seriously. Yes, there's a competitive spirit, but people don't whine and not show up. I've been doing course setup and running timing for 2+ years now. For those that have never seen that side of the equation, that's real work (and that's still not all of it.) There's a train load of stuff that goes on behind the scenes so people can show up, drive, and go home. In fact, getting out of the bus to drive the course is my relaxation.

(And, no, this is not me volunteering for rallyx VP. That's a level of mess I don't want.)

Ironically we'll have some good courses. We are very well prepared. Perhaps the delay will allow me to work on some other extras.

Regardless I can't control expectations vs reality. I'm still trying to find that sweet spot in a sport where you drive slow...but not too slow, but also not too fast.

I did it to prove a point. Even if Hermann Tikle designed the course these trolls would come out and complain because he was a THSCC member. The course has no stop box ok. It will be a fun course and if it dose not live up to your standards...fine. I am sorry.

Amen Ricky, That's why I do it too. I quit the sport all together in the past for the same reason. Succubus people who suck the life from you. I am thinking about quiting again.

Exactly. That's the ugly truth no one will admit to. It doesn't matter where we run, or what course is setup, or who designed it, because tarheel. I don't understand the volume of hate we get. A lot of our members are their fucking members too! Some of our members are, and have been, national champions.
