I can run AXware. I did it years ago and Mary gave me a refresher course last year.

In regards to power, I know we used to have a generator that got yanked off. Maybe a smaller one would be a better option, I suspect that big thing made way more power than was needed. If we're using inverters then I bet a nice small very quiet honda generator would do a great job.

Also, idling that V10 all day can't be cost effective or good for it. How many watts of power do we need? Printers shouldn't take too much, and I guess after that a laptop and timing gear/PA?

Sounds like we're using 4k watt inverters currently?

If I can come to another event anytime soon, I can bring my Honda EU2000i. It's super quiet and would be a good test. - AB

I know its the longest standing joke in the club, but I am actually somewhat interested in looking into a generator. Our current bus is probably a bit long in the tooth (1-2 years more max) if we want to be able to get any $ for it. It's got severe rust issues on top of that. I'd rather not have to "customize" the electrical system of whatever new vehicle we end up with, as that has led to its own batch of problems. For now, we are likely looking at replacing/upgrading inverters to make it through the season, but we need to start thinking long term.

We have a generator, but I have no idea how long it has been since it has been used. It is sitting in the hollowed out shell of a Honda next to the bus. It looks old enough that if we get it going, it would probably be annoyingly loud.

We've had that beast for years, was a gift from Don Ingerslew. From what I understand it was used at an airport. I've actually never seen it run. I'm thinking loud is an understatement. If Brice is saying we have some serious rust issues, we need to start some long term planning for a replacement. I wonder if a long enclosed car hauler can be converted into both storage and work space for T&S? The current trailer is going to need to be replaced at some point as well since it's been well loved. If we had the long trailer, we could buy a dually diesel pickup w/ a camper shell as an option. A generator could run all the electronics along w/ a camper style AC unit. Lots to consider....

I am having difficulty finding the results. Where do we go, MSR, thscc.com, or facebook. Seeing how much I suck is the highlight of my day.

I just asked Brice and Alec to clarify some stuff since I was sick this weekend and didn't make up to Danville.

Last year I picked up a cheap Samsung B/W printer since the HP was being a colossal POS, it tripped the breaker since it drew too much power. I just took the hit for it since it was open box, and it's lived in my closet since. Who else picked up a printer?

I doubt I'll be able to make it out (for long/at all) tomorrow for the meeting, but we should just pull the trigger on a cheap generator. When I did Chump with Charlie and Mo Monroe, they brought out one of these: http://www.amazon.com/Yamaha-EF2000iS-4 ... 002RWK9N2/

I'm pretty sure we could get an old surplus school bus and fit everything we need in that. No more trailers, heck, an enterprising bus driver with a trailer could tow a car to the events.

As for the other stuff, the more things that need to be done on event day, the more likely we will have an issue with at least one of the on event day. We should NOT be printing blank raw sheets on event day (or charging batteries, rewiring things, etc.) All those things are supposed to be done by the AX VP's between events (I know yall know that, I'm stating it for the people that are just getting started, in order to guide their suggestions in a good direction)

That's the opposite of cheap. It's nice, but not cheap.

Northern has a cheaper (but still moderately expensive) version

Is 800W big enough?

Agree with Scott. If you're spending that money, get the one that everyone wants to have and will run for just about ever:

It's a drop in the bucket ultimately and is a known quantity (Japanese 4 stroke single cylinders run forever).

I doubt that the second generator would work seeing how 800W/120V = 6.66A. The ramp up power draw of laser printers varies from model to model, but I wouldn't be surprised if it hits a peak of a 1000W or so. I can pull out my Kill-A-Watt and check out the Samsung I picked up for the club last year for science. I have no personal attachment to the Yahama I linked, but I know that Hondas are the gold standard like the one that Aaron linked.

e: found the kill-a-watt; brief peak at 7.2A, and then leveled off for a bit at 6.8A for a few seconds before dropping down to 2.5A.

that would be full circle to go back to a school bus, but it does make sense. I know one issue w/ the current bus is being able to sit in the chair while doing T&S and be able to see out the window and view the field. The windows are set just a bit too low compared to the other bus. Sounds like it's time for a Whitney SS to start documenting the good/bad for viable options.

I'm think I was joking... But, I do miss the old bus at times. And split run groups.
