Someone at my last event pointed out my numbers from the miata are not as visible as I thought on the subi. So, where do people get their car magnets from now? Hopefully red on white will work well enough.

there's several options to order on line, but I think most do like I do and simply cut them out from a magnetic sheet. Print out what you want font wise on a printed piece of paper, trace, cut, paint, done...

Do it correctly and get stickers to put on the car all the time. That way you will never leave home without them!

If you go this route, get magnetic sheet from a sign shop. The stuff you get at Michael's and AC Moore is thin, doesn't stick as well, and comes off. Worse still, once it falls off, it tends to get bent/mangled, and now it sticks even less well than it did before.

Maybe others have had better luck with crafts store magnetic, but I hated it and ended up having to use tape.

I agree with Karl. Don't try and cheap out thinking that you can cut a couple numbers outs out of the magnetic register (vent) covers they sell at Lowe's. Ask me how I know... Mine came out terrible

You're not going to find a decent set for much less than at solo performance and a lot sign shops will be a little steeper than expected.

Thanks guys.

I am looking for something done by a shop. I have gone the self cut magnets before and they screwed up the paint on a bike I had (trapped water/dirt). even though I am sure I wouldn't have to worry about it on my car since there only on for a few hours, I still don't want to go down that road again with something that costs 7x more.

I will check out the site Matt recommends as still try and figure out who I used for my first set.

What I did years ago before we had assigned numbers was to by the magnetic sheets from a sign shop. I then drew a large 7 segment number like on a digital display. I cut the magnetic material into strips and trimmed them into the segments. I then painted the segment pieces in a color that contrasted the car.

This way I could make any number that I was assigned and it also meant I had minimal waste in the magnetic sheets. I was auto-xing on a budget.

I ordered numbers from Solo Performance. Just way too easy to buy online, lol.

There's a pretty good tip on the Solo Performance site about ordering a 3rd number even if you don't need it. You could use it for a guest driver to change the number easily if you have 2 drivers.

This site is where I got my numbers and letters. A basic set is $28 and includes 2 numbers and up to 3 letters. I went with the outline set in a fancy font and color. Might as well look good while I"m going slow, right?

Best of luck
