It's been awhile since I've posted about a Chick School, so please forgive me if I have selected the wrong forum. Having said that, now that we have Danville back, it's time for another Chick School! Our last school was in 2012, so it's past time! As always, we'd like for it to be in April and for it to coincide with a Sunday event for economies of scale and to give our students a chance to put what they've learned to work. Hopefully by putting this out there early, we can get it on the schedule (I'm talking to you, Club Officers!). I know officers will be changing, but hopefully the new group won't have an issue with it (assuming the old group doesn't have any issue either)!

If the Chick School is a foreign concept to you, I'll give you a quick history. The first Chick School was started by Emmie Fisher and me in 2003. We try to have one approximately every other year. It's an opportunity for all those ladies who have heard about autocross and don't really know if they have any interest to come out and try it in a completely supportive, very enthusiastic environment. The instructors are all ladies. The students are all ladies. The school is for the entire spectrum - those who hardly know what autocross is to those who are looking to increase their competitive edge. Two of our Chick School alums include 2-time National Champion Gwen Habenicht and newly crowned National Champion Jennifer Bedell. Countless other THSCC ladies honed their skills in the Chick School.

THSCC has always been a huge supporter of this event (and, for that, I am eternally grateful!) and I hope it continues!

I'd like to see this happen again. I suggest waiting for the new officers to come into office so they can address. I'd love to get my wife to do this. Since we have the automatic car now, might be time to put her in the seat and see what she can do.

Where is Andrew when we need him? Doesn't "Chick" objectify women?

I think we need to rename this to the THSCC Ladies Who Drive Cars School. - AB

I knew it was only a matter of time before *someone* brought that up. Thanks, Aaron! :stick:

On a serious note. I hope to see this happen. It would be a great chance for my daughter to get some driving experience even if she never autocrosses after the school. I have a lot of respect for the ladies that created this school and those that continue to support it.

On a pot stirring note. Doesn't matter what you call it, any event that is specifically for females implies that they need special treatment and is therefore demeaning.

So to be clear what Milko is saying, the definition of this type of straw man is: "A straw man is a common type of argument and is an informal fallacy based on the misrepresentation of an opponent's argument.[1] To be successful, a straw man argument requires that the audience be ignorant or uninformed of the original argument."

Educate me dear sir on how this is right, because I would think the name implies that is demeaning? - AB (Ignorant and sitting in London, UK with nothing to do)

Guys, go ahead with your little argument, but in the meantime, Chris does deserve an answer.

In the past, this has been a great recruiting tool, and the attending chi..., errr females seemed to enjoy it. My vote would be to do whatever it takes to make this event happen.

Will there be a dress code enforced for this event?

I agree Chris does deserve a response.

Outside of Chris, lets go ahead and get volunteers to instruct/staff the event. That is my main concern at this point. We have several ladies who are no longer as active in autocross that I feel like staffing could be a concern. Let's go on the assumption that the event is to be held in May 2015, sometime. Start the list here. Once we get enough interest in terms of instructors, we can then start gaging if we have enough student interest.

April is *really* the ideal time for the school - early in the season and it doesn't conflict with ANY of the National events (and you might be surprised at how many national level drivers we get to instruct!). Also, while I'm asking for the moon, if we could do it on a weekend that neither Triad, CCR, nor NCR have an event - THAT would really rock. I'd be happy to coordinate that effort.

Back to instructors - this is typically not a problem for us. We recruit instructors from all of the area clubs which also increases our draw of students. I feel certain we will not be able to get instructors to commit until we have a firm date.

Thanks to everyone for the words of support!!!
