Pretty dramatic changes on the horizon. I agree with some, with others not so much.

Someone keep me from buying an 8th Honda. I think there are a couple of twin-cam Vtec contenders in HS now.

So my '81 datsun 210 still does not have a ghoast of a chance in HS.

Ouch! Boss 302s in FS? I didn't think the Shelby GT belonged in FS way back when. I'll have to pedal a lot faster next year.

I had completely forgotten about the Tempo V6. I wish the SCCA had as well.

One or more SAC members has commented that the regular Boss doesn't really have an advantage over many of the other late model FS cars or the Shelby GT. Also I think they suspect that the new Mustang will be at least as fast as the Boss and it "belongs" in FS as a continuation of "Best of the breed" approach with Pony cars with the exception of really special versions. Time will tell.

I would say to look out for the 2000-2006 ones still, but they're all probably DQ'd for having broken window regulators and not being able to roll down the windows.

Here's something that was tucked away at the bottom:

Alas, the B 210. That was the first car that I probably ever rode in. My dad bought one new in '77 in San Diego during the fuel crisis.

Dang. I was really looking forward to having an excuse to pick up a new full-face.

An old friend of mine, the late Tom Wyatt who built one of the first real successful aftermarket turbo businesses starting in the mid-70s (specializing in Datsuns, primarily 240/260/280Zs and 510s), built a wicked fast B210 with a custom turbo setup for his girl friend back in the early 80s. At the track (Road Atlanta) in the early 80s, it was fun to see it outrun Ferrari 308s down the straights.

Of course Tom's 510 was in another league...one of the fastest cars at the Mitty back then (we used to run open track sessions at the Walter Mitty Challenge in the early 80s back when they were basically the BMW, Ferrari, Lambo and Jaguar club track days). With a custom built engine, monster turbo, draw-through Holley 750, pressurized water injection and 3-stage N2O coupled with a stripped 510 chassis...pretty crazy stuff for 1981.

Wow, that thing looks like hell on wheels! Very cool.

There's something about this version that I really like, especially given the timeframe.

Can't help but consider the NX2000 with 2.0 liter engine, 6" wide wheels, 140hp, LSD, short wheelbase and under 2400ish pounds as the HS "it car." Of course, there may be only one left in the country, and knowing how fanatical people are during impound I bet it is not even close to stock enough to pass a protest.

I am no good at hypothetical benchracing, so I may be way off base...
