It looked to me like the C6 base model corvettes are in the A Stock class. I had been under the impression that it was Super Stock.

Am I looking at the right place?

yep. AStreet for you, or Super Street R if running Hoosiers.

It's kinda weird this year with the transition to Street classing. I'm sure there will be some further re-classing after everyone figures out how the dust will settle on the switch to street tires.

I think some of the thinking was that the really high horsepower cars would lose relatively more of their advantage with less traction.

Sports cars with proper multi-link/wishbone suspensions stand to lose more speed from the loss of R-comps than those with SLAs, Mac Struts and other cost saving designs which couldn't really take full advantage of them on soft stock suspensions.

SLA is a double wishbone suspension (a negative camber gaining on compression variant). I wouldn't consider SLA in that latter set of suspension designs (macstruts or torsion beams etc).

But your point is valid coupled with what Dick is getting at (powerful cars are going to loose more on street tires due to tire size availability and lower levels of grip). I haven't looked too much but I assume a car like the Lotus Elise it likely to stay in SS whereas some of the Vettes might get demoted to AS since the Elise probably won't be that much slower on street tires since they have skinny tires with plenty of size/width options (and no torque :) ).

I meant Solid Live Axle.. not Short-Long Arm. Sorry.

Perhaps I should have said SRA (Solid Rear Axle) to clarify that I was talking about pony cars. Cars with SRAs have very soft spring rates to keep the axle from hopping off the ground which means boatloads of body roll on R-comps.

I've read some reports of mustang owners saying their FS cars magically handle transitions much better after ditching the R-comps.

Great, I get the chance to order yet another set of class markers.... And tires.

Yeah I have two static cling panels with "SS" on them. Since I'm bringing the corvette to Faytubville I guess I'll just use blue tape for numbers...
