Well, I signed up as an instructor. There goes the neighborhood :)

Any hotel recommendations? Last summer I stayed at the Hampton on Skibo across from Cross Creek Mall. Any other recommendations? (I'd like one with a parking lot with pull-through parking places so I can bring my tire trailer)

Do not go back to the HIE Bordeaux where Chuck and Jackie almost got jumped or Keehner, Noah and I almost got salmonella :).

Having grown up near Fayetteville, my suggestion is to drive back to the triangle for the night. Or maybe stay at one of the hotels off of exit 49 just north of Fayetteville.

Thanks to THSCC for pulling this together. I am looking forward to learning something this weekend and encourage some of our Heart of Carolina Club Members to come out for some future events.

Ignoring Jason's well-meant advice, I booked a room for Saturday night at the Holiday Inn Express on Skibo Rd. I'd told that's where the fashionable THSCCers stay. Looking for a roomie to split the bill. PM me.

Big thanks to everyone who helped make a big weekend go very well! AutoX veeps, Rob Lupella, and all the volunteer instructors did a great job handling an oversubscribed novice School. Despite some logistical hiccups (my fault) the day went very well with lots of seat time for the novice crew. Everyone I spoke to (about 10-12 folks) said their instructors were helpful and friendly, and that the school hit the bullseye on what they were expecting to get. Even the lunch options were well-received (thanks Rob!) I saw my students get faster over the two days, which was pretty satisfying to say the least.

The Points 3 course was a lot more satisfying and challenging than I expected. Not overly fast, but rewarded the right line and patience in the sealed zones. The transition between lots was a little nervy but all the drivers did well there. Best move of the day has to go to Charlie Guthrie, who apparently got bored with going across the finish line forwards and need to do a sweet spin to cross through the finish cones backwards!

Did I hear correctly that we had 57 students Saturday? That's quite an accomplishment!

I think it ended up more like 52, but still a bigger turnout than expected. I heard we had 90+ drivers on Sunday, and it was very impressive to get everyone five runs and be packed up by 3:00. Very efficient!

I think that we provided enough of the good stuff to create some AutoX addicts. I also noticed that we had good instructor support from other clubs. A thanks to them as well. It’s great to see reticence and nervousness change to confidence and excitement as the day proceeded. There were some shrieks of joy coming out of one of the cars that I instructed in. :sing:

I worked start for the last half hour or so of the novice school so I got the chance to ask many of the students if they had a good time. The responses ranged from enthusiastic "yes" to "I am hooked". As a novice novice instructor, it was a bit of a curve for me learning how to provide useful instruction, but I had some positive responses and found the experience rewarding. Well done event!
