Chuck - your ZHP vs M3 hypothesis makes perfect sense. All I know is I thought I had the pivot cone set up just right only to be repeatedly surprised by the thunk of clipping that cone with the rear tire. I had to run it deliberately wide on my last run to be 100% sure I cleared it.

That last slalom was really frustrating. Too fast for 1st gear and way too slow for 2nd. This may be a heretical statement, but I've never thought that VDA had that much grip. It's really smooth, but I've always had serious understeer problems there, whether on fat Hoosiers or skinny Rivals.

Art, I picked up a big push there too, and it really stood out, because the car was a sweetheart for the entire rest of the course. I figured maybe it was because I hadn't been spraying my tires (Dunlop ZIIs), and that since it was the end of a run after a CMP-worthy braking zone, that maybe I'd just overheated them.

I had so much fun Saturday, it was really great to be back. The Miata is a lot of fun, and I feel like I'm adjusting to street tires fairly well. Other than a couple events in Steve's AP2 last year, and an occasional fun run in someone else's car, this year is the first competitive driving I've done on anything other than Hoosiers in over a decade (!!).

Is this a thinly veiled compliment towards the SCCA rulebook for not making you have to choose between A6s and diapers? :P

So here's my 4th run, forgot to hit the play button the gopro on my best 5th run. I think this one was a 67.8 and I shifting into 3rd after the lane changes. Great course.

So what was the final debate on the clockwise vs counter clockwise on the pivot. Very evil thing to set up 8) . I did both and then I chose to stay left on entry...

Steven Spampinato,

Here is the air compressor that we borrowed from Chuck on Saturday

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0012WHBSO/ref ... 1MDDJTPGZA

For those wanting a small, powerful, yet inexpensive air compressor, this one is pretty damn good. I'll have one on the way to me shortly.

I just got the next larger version, the 85P. I haven't used it yet, so it's good to hear its little brother is good. It was necessary. I used to carry an air tank in the S2000, but a Miata's trunk is considerably smaller. Have to pack lightly.

I didn't notice at first that the 70P comes with its own little carrying case. Maybe I'll send the 85P back and get that one instead.

Tight is right, and shorter distances result in faster times. Left hand entry and tight on the back/right edge of the pivot cone was the fast way. Of course, I only pulled it off twice in the six runs, but it had the added difficulty of getting the braking zone set up correctly to initiate that turn without pushing deep into the box.

Man, I was all over the place on Saturday, with DNF's for my first 3 runs. I blew the offset gate after the lane changes on my first run, understeered right through the far side of the box at the pivot on my second run, and went off course on my 3rd. I had clean runs on 4 & 5, and picked up a silly cone on my last run. Not sure about my best (clean) time but it was somewhere in the neighborhood of 68.xxx.

I thought the course was really challenging, and had a lot of interesting transitions and changes of pace. I got my car tuned last summer and I am really struggling getting used to the additional power. I considered turning it off at one point yesterday (after my off) as I felt it was no real benefit on that particular course. I still have so much to learn!

Am the only one that saw times consistently higher on the timer then the posted results? Not complaining about getting better times then ithought.

edit: never mind. It's apperently been a while since I have last read a clock with anything over 60 secomds

Yeah a lot of people get confused about 60+ s times on that display...it's 1 min 12 secs not 112 s :).

Thanks... I no longer feel stupid about not being able to read a clock.

Maybe we can have the display post the times in binary next time. That should offer up some excitement and interesting questions
