After co-driving one for a couple of years, you will want either a Z51 suspension car or a Grand Sport, the latter would be better mainly due to much wider front rims and fenders. If the budget allows, buy a 2008+ with the LS3. The extra hp and torque is worth it. I autocrossed a 2008 Z51 3LT and it was a blast. - AB
Yeah... I've looked long 'n hard at that and I appreciate the thought. It's just not in the budget for 2 reasons:
1. I want something reliable, so I'm trying to get a newer C6.
2. The Grand Sport, while better looking and more performant, isn't worth the cost to me. The base model really hits the sweet spot as far as dollers-per-smile value.
2. It looks like I can add better suspension components for fairly cheap (hopefully less that $500) if I find that the ride isn't stable enough for autocross. But coming from a stock RX-8, with the short test drive I had, it felt more or less comparable. Smoother than my wife's VW GTI () but still stable.
