What do you seasoned "no tow or support vehicle or tire trailer" autocrossers do to keep "stuff" including luggage and computer out of the weather during the event? It has been almost 25 years since the last time I had this need (autocrossing a Mustang this year). I've got plastic bins for most things but don't really like relying on plastic garbage bags for bulky stuff like luggage and computer for out of town events. I'm thinking of a large water proof bag like this.

Any other proven solutions?

Thanks,

Tarp or garbage bag. I don't take much that a little water will hurt.

I'm thinking about long out of town trips with many days of "stuff" for 2 people that "happen" to include a Pro, Tour, or even Nats. Lots of stuff that cannot safely stay in the hotel, especially if leaving that city at the end of the day.

Thanks,

At some of the sites, like DC, I feel safer leaving stuff in the hotel than carrying it around with me. Otherwise, I tended to leave stuff locked up in the tire trailer (or, when we towed the car on a trailer, in the storage box on the trailer).

Before I towed I put anything that would care about being wet in a rubbermaid bin.

Tarps, Rubbermaid Bins, or Garbage bags. Computer in a friend's tow vehicle :-)

I've just been using a Rubbermade bin for my clothes/raingear, pump, magnets & other tools. I usually car along a few clear drumliner bags for extra clothes.

Dick, we just use a tarp, folded over and held down by tires, jack handles, etc. On my own I used to use a small, one man tent. It was cheap, easy to put up, had a waterproof floor and stuff you might have concerns about someone taking could generally be placed in such a way that one would have to crawl in to have a look. It did the job well.

Gwen, I wondered about the tent idea. Thanks!

I've got plenty of Rubbermaid bins for the one day event stuff but need more room for luggage, etc. for two people on long trips. Tent and/or cargo bag like the e trailer example look like the best ways without escalating to some sort of small trailer.

Well, I like that the tents zip closed. Generally there's enough folks that you know around that I think it would be pretty tough for someone to really browse around your stuff too much.

Side bar to thread: you're going FS this year rather than your mod car?

We are experimenting with non serious FS as a break from open trailer towing with an old tow vehicle. We don't really feel comfortable with spending/borrowing big $$$ for a much newer RV or SUV, etc. and an enclosed trailer. My existing 2012 5.0 Mustang is the easy button for a lot of fun locally and maybe long trip autocross and sightseeing trips with very little hassle and much lower fuel costs. About the only thing I like about the new Street tire rule is being able to do "not serious" but reasonably fast autocrossing in a stock car without tire changing so the timing is perfect.

That sounds like too much work and commitment. :(

I already have Rubbermaid boxes for one day event stuff, the main question is the far away SCCA events that involve luggage. I don't think the THSCC bus will be at those.

Hopefully you have recovered your "stuff" before I pick up the bus on Friday March 7th.

If any of you autocrossers went off course into the grass and liked it, then next weekend is made just for you. Join your rallycross buddies and have a spin in Fayetteville. (Shameless promotional brought to you by your friendly Rallycross VPs)
