I love the little head scratch right before launch. Even with that, you forgot. It doesn't take long before you notice a projectile rattling around the cockpit.

I've started a run with my air tank in the back... Not good.

I did a run with 2 toolboxes in the trunk. Car handled like shit and sounded like death.

Great event today, the weather was a little cold to start, but beautiful by the end. No precip at the event or in transit.

Here's a short video of my 3rd run. Not my best run. I'll try to put together a better video later.

This is a good video.

Love the running man video

I'm hardly in a position to coach, but I see two places where I think you gave up time. Granted I was in a mini, so this may not totally apply, but the open ended boxes at the end of the front straight, I was bumping off the rev limiter in 2nd, so considerably quicker than your speedo said. Also, the "wiggle slalom", I know myself, Matt, and quite a few of the STR guys were well into 3rd there. Not sure about Mustangs, since they are considerably wider than a Mini or an S2000 (and both of those were narrow elements).

The infield section looked pretty clean. You actually didn't overdrive it like I did on EVERY run. Oh well.

I'm thinking that you could have been a bit more aggressive. If I was driving my car I would probably have been more aggressive on throttle. I wasn't in 3rd in the wiggle and I'm not sure Carlton was either. The STR cars (at least the S2K's rev like hell).

Looking at the cone stats on instant results yesterday toward the end of the day there were 18x cone calls for the day for an average of over .5 cones per run at that time. I feel obligated to apologize for this as I feel solely responsible

Not really. We are all rusty. Course was fun, I had a blast. The only 2 suggestions I have (and they are probably personal preference) is that I would have done the pivot cone so that if you did it right you would be lined up on exit. This way it would not just not punish you if you went in too fast (Here is how not to do it http://youtu.be/7EyNYM6jXSc). The other change would be the slalom right after the 2nd eyebrow. A little more space would have made the entry a bit easier as a bunch of coneage was had there.

Like the whole section from leaving the VDA through the wiggles - it was fast but gave enough time to keep the car under you.

Thanks for putting it together

Hearing you two chuckling it up on the slidewayz entry was most enjoyable!

Combination of several runs. The main footage is my best cone-free run, though I did throw some cone penalties in for added excitement.

Don't blame Dick, he was probably too busy trying to find a moment of open air on the radio between DNF and cone calls (which I believe were about equal in number during heats 1&3 -- what is WRONG with you people!) to call in your car # and class to notice that you forgot something.

I didn't. With 3.55 gears and figuring in the 6250 rpm rev limiter I can do a calculated 65 mph in 2nd. With the size ZIIs that you run, it's about 1 mph less. My car is 5-speed. If your 2012 had the 6-speed manual, with a 7000 rpm redline, then I calculate your top speed in 2nd gear would be:
63 with 3.31 final drive
59 with 3.55 final drive
56 with 3.73 final drive
I wonder what rear-end ratio the top Mustang drivers nationally run. I believe the Torsen option only comes with the 3.73.

Art -

The automatic 3:15 rear gear and automatic 2nd and apparent 6800 rpm (per OBDII and DL1 data) result in calculated and observed top speed of 66 mph on the short ZII's. 72 mph on oem size tires.

The 5.0 FS guys were running the 3:31. This was with A6's. Mark Daddio mentioned in 2012 that he would have liked to be able to run the 3:15's and if the Brembo brake package had been an option with the automatic then (it is now I think) he might have gotten an automatic. Apparently the 5.0's rev limiter is not autocross friendly and forces the car to slow after you hit it. This may be for manual trans only since mine held the limiter for over a second until I lifted before the finish on the dnf where I missed the second chicago box. On most of the other runs I hit the limiter crossing the finish so I lifted immediately afterwards.

I'm pretty sure the fastest GT running street tires last year was also running 3:31's. He had the Brembo brake version which means 19x9 wheels versus 19x8.5's as an option for the normal GT's (mine are 18x8). Tires were 275/35x19 ZII's. Under the new rules I could run 19x8.5's (you too probably) which would probably still be enough for the 275 ZII's. I'm waiting to see how the 2015 Mustangs turn out before getting serious about FS other than experimenting this year. I want to want a 15 or 16.

I didn't see a post on this, but the results are up... Looks like I have to drive better to catch up w/ Stephen this year. Great driving!

Nice course, was a lot of fun, the little car did very good, the new suspension is making a difference.
Here my fastest run, I went wide before the last slalom and I had to edit the sound a little.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlXFzHeUTtA

On that run I stay in second for the first slalom after the VDA, I try 3rd on one run but the overall time was slower (probably lost time everywhere else)
Looking at it now, I think using 3rd there will have been slightly better, next time.

When the 2011s were introduced, I crunched the numbers and determined that the 3.31 was the ratio for autocross. Glad to hear that my assessment was correct, for whatever that is worth. A couple of weeks ago, I saw online that Crossroads in WF had a 2014 Mustang GT in Ruby Red, with cloth seats, 6-speed manual, 3.31 gears, Torsen+19x9 wheels and a sticker price in the 34s. I should have looked into that, because the discounts are on for the 14's, but I tend to hang onto cars long past the point of obsolescence.

The rev limiter in my car is harsh.. touch it and you have to give up 500 rpm before power resumes. The Shelby GTs and I think the Bullitts let you bounce off their higher (6500) limit all day.

Art - If it makes you feel better about not looking into the 2014 all the Ford info I've seen (website build it tool and order quide) indicate that the Torsen only comes with the Track Package which always includes the 3.73 gears.

Wow, Ford isn't putting clutch based/salisbury diffs in the Mustang anymore?
