Seems I remember having to start after 12:00 noon there on Sundays due to local ordinance? Am I remembering that wrong?

The site is big, and has bathrooms and shade. The drive was easy for Ryan and I back in the day since it's pretty much all interstate.

P.S. Might want to move the dumpsters for Scott. :D

Mike - do you still have an image of the dash plaque for the 2002 VMP autocross?

I think one event a year at VMP is a good idea.

DON'T do a late crossover like this map shows. Man I learned a lesson that day (near head-on collision when Eric P caught up with someone slow!)

I must have been, uncharacteristically, looking ahead since I don't recall an "oh s**t" moment at that event :-)

That was a fun event. I think that's where you did the Team Challenge. Anyway, VMP is a great site. It was too bad they stopped doing the Pro Solo Series there. We're "all in" if it doesn't conflict with a national event.

VMP, great memories of running at that site with VMSC and a SCCA ProSolo. Really cut my teeth on car control there...

LOL! It wasn't long ago that I had to finally retire the last of those shirts. It was in a really bad way.

Despite the baby on her way any second now, I'm starting to hatch a plan to return to autocrossing this year in a limited engagement. And I would much rather drive to VMP than to NCCAR. I've got the same issues with NCCAR as everyone else does, so that's not worth rehashing.

The one thing I didn't like about VMP was the bumpiness. I remember it feeling a lot like Laurinburg sometimes did - that it was only a matter of time before I broke something in the suspension.

Ehhh, there are some low frequency undulations near where NASA usually has the start of the course, but it's easy enough to design around it and make it a lot more reasonable. I autocrossed my SI when I had much stiffer than stock springs and big rear bar and it didn't feel bad at all.

WOW, its not often you can get 81% of this club to agree on something. Color me impressed.

I do know what you are saying, but to that point, getting 81% of the entire membership to agree on anything will never happen.

Sanford is gone and Danville is closed.

Times are tough.

I still have one in decent shape, though it is a large and I am no longer in a shape to wear it :) probably why it has been preserved. It still gets looks when I wear it in public. The front of the shirt looked like this:

Probably the best shirt in the history of the THSCC.

As for VMP, its a pretty kick ass site. The 12+ hour drive for me would probably preclude me from attending. :) But I do highly encourage the powers that be to try running there again. Its certainly worth a 2 hour drive.

Until I softened my springs to "wheel rates equal about 2/3's of corner weights" last season the worst bumps were "interesting" in the CM car but I considered them to be good practice for the extremely bumpy Forbes Field in Topeka North course used for Nationals. Just don't have a long straight which ends near that area.

I intend to run my stock Mustang at the NASA event on Feb 2. That should give me some idea of what the site feels like in a solid axle limo with 400 hp on all season tires. :?

Completely agree that that was the best shirt ever. Mine is still in use as an oil change shirt, I just can't bring myself to get rid of it

That's funny.... I have 2 draws of shirts now, 1 for working on cars and the yard and one to be seen in public in.
