Has anyone here participated in this before? What caught my attention is that this type of event is allowed on the Fairgrounds. I wonder how much Motorsport Lab is paying for site rental.

Never heard of them. Found this video on Youtube (I think there are a number of videos).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sf5i_46l7q0

5K RPM limit? (which I am pretty he goes beyond on his last of three laps). It looks pretty tame to me. Especially if they put a significant number of restrictions on you. But for $99 it might be interesting.

I find this quote from their website interesting. Particularly the part about tipping your instructor...

"Ferrari and Lamborghini Agility Autocross Experience - $549 per person and includes your choice of either Ferrari or Lamborghini.
Our driving experiences are full-service and accompanied by our driving instruction sherpas to educate you about the Supercar and help protect your personal safety. As they are compensated by gratuity, please be courteous and tip on the full amount of the experience. Sample customary gratuity recommendations are: 18% of $549 = $98.82, 20% of $549 = $109.80, 25% of $499 = $137.25. If you feel that their service does not deserve a gratuity, please do not leave one."

So your Groupon $99 can easily be closer to $200 for what might be parade laps depending upon how strict they are with how aggressive they allow you to drive.

I checked an hour ago....sold out on Saturday, only 3 lap sessions for Sunday. Friday had availability for both.

Not knowing the autocross schedule I punted so as not to conflict. I must be nuts--I chose to drive a Honda than a Ferrari.

Uhhh driving a Gallardo or Modena and not being able to go over 5k rpms or make any tire noise (without big penalties) is like driving a minivan to the grocery store to get some bread and milk....I'll drive my (Jeremy's) Honda instead :).

I bet any of us in a Honda Odyssey could go significantly faster than the FERRARI EXPERIENCE or whatever. Plus you can have up to 6 people yelling in your ear to "TRACK AOUT TRACK AOUT".

This is beyond crazy that someone would pay $549 and then potentially pay $2500 if they go over 5k rpms (which of course there is no preset rev limit at that value on a fast revving V8), $$$ for cone hit, $$ if the tires squeal, etc. Every member of this forum who autocrosses likely drives vastly faster than they would in this course. Heck, the E90 M3 is a good bit faster than a 360 Modena in a straight line even all the way to 150mph...

Talked about this yesterday with the guys from work. Other than the novelty of driving a supercar I think we decided it would be more fun to run my Miata at a THSCC AX.

IMHO, there is no novelty in driving a supercar if you can't put it through its paces. And the threat of high $ penalties for miscues seals it for me.

In reality, I wonder if the "excess" charges are there just in case someone is a total ass. So they may or may not charge you depending upon the situation. Even in that video I linked, while the guy is pretty much driving Ms. Daisy for the first two runs, he did at least get on it on the last run, but only with permission of the instructor. And to the guys credit, he was likely doing only what his instructor told him to do.

I wonder if an 8/10th drive might be OK. I think you can still get up to speed within the rules listed on that video. I am not sure I would pay $200 for it however.

X2. That video didn't look like any fun to me.

The Ferrari is actually slower than my Z06 Corvette and the Z doesn’t push, so why should I spend the money to drive a Ferrari? I’ve learned in autox that pushing a Miata at it’s limits is a lot more fun than trying to stay within the limits of a high HP car. With penalties included, I’ve hit enough cons, burned sufficient rubber, and stayed above 5K RPMs long enough to have paid off the Vette.

Look like it’s the same weekend then the THSCC VIR North event. Will be more fun to be at VIR then there.
By the way, when can we expect the dates to be confirm for 2014 HPDE.

You have got to be kidding me. $1000+ for 6 laps!!!! And suckers.....er.....enthusiasts pay that. Maybe we are going about this AX t thing the wrong way. Let's increase our entry fees to $500. They will get 6 laps. For that fee they can use my car. They can't rev it above 4K and they have to Zaino all the cone marks off and pay $50 p/cone. We will be the Southeast's most exclusive AX club....

I don't want to do the groupon but with a recommended gratuity of between $100 and $150 I would be down with instructing.
