The only "problem" with 5.0 Mustangs and similar high HP and Torque cars is how little time you get to spend at anything close to full throttle.

Bring it to VIR. There are a few places you can put your foot down and stay there -- as long as you trust your brakes.

(Note: Patriot course is none of those places.)

There's a remedy for that problem, it's called VIR Full Course. I burn enough gas in one weekend to prove how often my Mustang is full throttle.

Last month was the first time I've taken the Miata on Full course... I get significantly worse mileage on North.

I still find it interesting that my old 2.4L I-4 Cavalier Z-24 got about 8 MPG on track, and my 4.6L V-8 Mustangs gets just a shade less at 7.8 MPG.

That's about the same for us, maybe a little more? Our Prelude has a 15 gallon tank (so the manual says anyway) but I don't think we can go 3.75 hours on a tank of fuel. We have run almost 3 hours once, but thought we were lucky not to run it dry!

Less full throttle time between corners? Whee!

I used to do open track with my 88 5.0 Mustang (Charlotte, Rockingham, Roebling, Mid-Ohio, and Watkins Glen) and VIR South with my 01 Mustang. Decided that to really have fun the $$$ and "body" risk factor was too high. Plus instructing got too scary.

Don't tease me. But more entries in FS would be welcome.

For the uninitiated, here's a clip that shows what FS autocross is all about :)

Good news, I found more examples of FS autocross!

An old Laurinburg/Maxton autocross:

And from the way-back machine, video from an early 90's Wilson Grand Prix:

MazdaSpeed3 8mpg full course
Corvette z06 9 MPG North course, 9.7 mpg Full course
The better I drive, the better my MPG gets.
This reinforces that the Z06 is the ultimate economy race car.
