I blew a couple of decent runs by driving over cones. Some things never change.

Small critique Bill. Your one-handed approach to a couple of the tighter turns (so you can keep one hand on the shifter) is definitely not optimal. I doubt you will ever find anyone who drives better with just one hand on the wheel.

Constructive feedback is greatly appreciated VK. I have been working on my heel-toe downshifting, and this past weekend was the first time I actually tried to use it out on the course, on the 2 turns you point out in particular. I suspect that my failure to promptly return the right hand to the wheel was collateral damage.

Did some A/B testing last night in the Miata: 40-60 in 2nd versus 3rd gear.

I should have shifted into 3rd.

Now, for a little video overload.

Scott on the left, Keith on the right. Outboard GoPro up top, inboard iPhone on bottom. I kind of got things synched to make sense. It wasn't as easy as it looks.

My take home, from the video? I need to launch better. Keith already won at the first turn. I actually catch up in the middle of the run, only to give it back. It's easier to fix the launch than anything else.

On edit - looking at the data, it appears that I maintained a faster vehicle speed than Keith on average. Unfortunately for me, he drove a shorter distance. Also, 0.2 seconds is really not much.
