Using the track circuitcross style definitely bumps NCCAR up a few notches on the site list, hopefully even Milko will make the trek all the way to Garysburg next time.

I know that doing highish speed slaloms on the Sanford taxiway made me a little skittish, esp after someone went off right in front of me a couple seasons back...did it have that same narrow feel to it? I suspect using the track would be less desirable for wet events, and we would just use the VDA?

I heard a rumor that we won't be able to use the VDA next year. Look for something better if what I was told comes to fruition. And no, don't ask me what's going to happen, I've taken an oath to Sam.... =)

I wonder if Sam has access to our private forums. :poke:

For those who enjoyed running the track, and want an intro to on track driving with less preparation commitment than is necessary for an HPDE, check this out:

http://www.gripsyndicate.com/upcomingevents.html

They do timed solo style single lap runs on the NCCAR course. Sam mentioned these guys to me on our course walk. An interesting concept. They keep speeds low (by eliminating the front straight), reduce chance of brake fade (single lap) and eliminate the possibility of passing incidents (single lap and they control launch). If there was a missing gateway drug from autocross to track, this may be it.

This really has been your year, hasn't it? You have a new clutch, HS is still in the books for next year, you are best buds with Sam and got to do a circuit cross...

What I'm trying to get at here is Rodney for President 2014.

Or you could attend club member Stacy King's Asphalt Ventures event at NCCAR on the 9th of November. Stacy even has a group for folks with a convertible and no rollbar.

It's still sort of sinking in that we got to do that. Unfreakingbelievable!!! Sam is the man for suggesting that we use the course if everyone plays nicely, which it seemed like everyone did.

I joked with him during trophies that we could use the east side of the track next time. Great job to the course designers for making a tough, fun, fast, and safe course in conjunction with some cool elevation changes. The uphill slalom was probably my favorite and the second half of the course seemed to be a test of speed management though the last two sets of slaloms.

Here's one of my runs that gives a good idea of the course before my GoPro filled up: http://youtu.be/0HyneF-mWto

I'm just glad there's another autocross this weekend after the awesomeness of this one, that's all...

I actually liked the section of the track just after the VDA up to the uphill slalom. Surprisingly I also liked Rodney's set of slaloms around the corner even though I never really figured them out. I really liked everything about the course.

I agree, I the curving slalom was probably the most challenging portion of the course for me. Entry was tough to nail while trying to trail brake without locking the right front, and it took enormous discipline to slow down enough to keep from being thrown off by the next to last cone. The high speed sweeper section after that was an absolute blast, I felt like a dog hanging my head over the side of the car to see around the A-pillar.
