Honestly, it's not the Saturday part that's bad, so much as it is Saturday+school in session. Once school starts, so do fall sports and all the other kid-related activity. If it was during the summer, Saturday at NCCAR would be great since those events are typically under-subscribed and that usually translates into lots of seat time.

So the odd thing is 2 years ago tons of people were wanting more Saturday events, but the more I think about it, the more I realize said people were one offs. Seems the core regulars are more in favor of Sunday events...it's good data. Granted Saturday events are specifically desirable at NCCAR given the Sunday quite hour mess.

Sleep's overrated.

I love Saturday events because when I'm standing out there chasing cones, I almost forget that I don't have to worry about going back to work the next day. It's almost like Sunday is a recovery day to let the sunburn soak in, catch the F1 race (hopefully) and unpack the car whenever I feel like it.

I totally understand the obligations with the kiddies though...

Saturday: Autocross
Sunday: Brew beer, drink beer, and watch NFL Sunday Ticket.

Doesn't get much better than that. Count me in the "Saturday events rule" crowd, particularly when someone else is GMing the event. Thanks Zach!

Funny. It didn't drive like there was too many slaloms. The course was fun as hell!

Awesome day! Big thanks to Brice, Rodney, Zach, and James for making sure everything went smoothly.

I agree. This was by far the most exciting autox course I have ever seen (even if I have only seen like 6). Fantastic job guys. That was an awesome time.

+1000000 This was NCAC material right there, excellent. I finally got some good results, the new Dunlop ZII made a huge difference.

So I dreamed of this autox last night. I can't tell you the last time I've had that much fun at an autox. Funny thing is we had to change the format, so sort of a combo between split and run at once run groups. Everyone drove twice and everyone worked twice and I didn't hear the first negative comment.

I want to say thanks to Sam True for allowing us to run on the track and get a taste of circuit cross. Sam really wants us to set something like this up again next year. From what I saw yesterday, we won't have a problem getting people to attend.

I do want to say thanks to Sam, Zach and Marcus. Sam was kind enough to get his John Deere gator out and help us throw out cones on the track. Zach and Marcus set up the track while I was tossing out cones. I did have a little input.... if you liked the curved slalom, that was me. A little different and that turned out to be more challenging than I thought. Excellent job Zach and Marcus for setting up the course!

It was funny to watch this whole thing evolve. We had set the cones out on the VDA as usual and we had somewhat decided to do a "figure 8" setup. We had maybe a forth of the course setup. I was talking w/ Sam when he mentioned if we'd like to change it up and setup on the track. I remember not believing what I had just heard so I asked if he was serious. He was. I called over Zach and Marcus and told them of Sam's offer. Our concern was course workers. If we did this everyone would have to work twice. OK.... Let's do it!

We had everything setup by 5:30 including testing. Bus placement was perfect in regard to start and finish for the timing equipment. All we had to do now was hope for the best the next day.

Next day: All I heard was positive comments. I spoke to Shawn that morning and he was shocked not to see the course setup on the VDA and was thinking we were a bunch of slackers. He was grinning pretty good when he saw the course on track. BTW Shawn, nice driving yesterday. I drove my 3 for all it was worth and I just can't catch you.

I want to thank everyone for following the rules yesterday and not being stupid on the track exit. Thank you so much. Sam was very happy w/ our performance yesterday. We have an excellent relationship w/ NCCAR and you helped keep that relationship in good standing. I also want to again thank everyone for working double shifts. Without your help, this event wouldn't have happened.

Thank you all!

So this is my last and best run. All I could manage was a 65.8. Damn that was a fun course....

So I'm chatting with Zach on Hangouts at like 11pm on Friday night and he's being oddly brief in the conversation:

J: So how did things go?
Z: Well the course is setup.
J: How is the overlap?
Z: There is none
J: Uh, the course does not loop back on itself?
Z: Nope.
Z: 60-70s course
J: Wat!?!
...... <long pause> ......
Z: Sam let us use half the road course.
J: OMFG!

Yeah I was pretty excited to hear this. Sam did us a solid yesterday and the chairs setup a really fun course. Cone count was pretty small, very few red flags, work assignments were short and even with 7 runs and a 45 min lunch break, we were packed up and out there by like 4:30 or so.

It looked like a lot of slaloms, but there was a lot of very fun (and tricky) and fast sweeping entrances to some elements.

Jeremy kicked my ass yesterday.....so much so that one of the rear wheel studs melted :(. Anyway, with NCAC next weekend, we have to scramble to get that done which means rear wheel bearings and we mind as well do all the studs while the hubs are out. Glad this is my last week at my old job so I'll just start late and leave early :). We are going to buy a press and bearing seperator but if that takes too long, does anyone have a press I can use?

It was pretty funny, I got there early since I was signed up to work the late gate shift and I wanted to get a course walk in before I started. So I drove down to the VDA and when I crested the hill I couldn't see any cones and I was like "holy crap they don't have the course set up yet??" Then I drove down a little further and saw the cones leading out on to the road course and I was like "Awesome!!"

I was afraid it would be a little bit of slalom mania but the elements were setup in combination with the curves of the road course and it never felt too slalomy (is that a word?). The curved slalom with entry from a hard entry angle was the most challenging element to me and, it really made you plan your braking and line to get into it well.

Overall, it was a great event and great surprise. Excellent way to wrap up our points events for the season. Thanks to everyone who made this happen
