We really need to have someone announcing times in every heat -- to inform the drivers of their time/cones/reruns and for the enjoyment of the spectators. It's just something you expect at a well run event, and something we haven't been providing regularly the last few years. Making the results available on your smartphone is a great thing, but I don't think it's a substitute for an announcer. (Maybe I think this because I'm a Luddite who doesn't have a smartphone, but I still think I'm right :) )

at most events I have been to, I never hear what the announcer is saying when I am running. If he is the one telling me I get a rerun, I will miss it.

Whenever I've worked grid, I've always taken it to be my job to notify a driver of a rerun. If it's the final run, and the driver has headed for the pit, I usually find someone to go tell him/her.

Announcers are not there for the benefit of the drivers on track, they are there to enhance the event by keeping the crowd and other drivers appraised of the times during that particular run. Your times and the reruns are not handled through the announcer, grid and timing should take care of those.

I agree with Chuck on this. Unless it is obvious like a red flag on course, the driver may not hear he/she/it got a rerun. The grid worker will know.

Why do I feel like you guys think I am arguing the bus worker should be telling me if I get a rerun? Ive always relied on the grid worker/word of mouth even though I know its ultimitly my responsibility.

Well, I still think it would be nice to hear times and penalties announced on the PA. We seem to be migrating towards small sites where the stop box is in earshot of the PA. And it's just nice to have someone announcing results. My 2nd autocross ever was a Triad event at Holly Hill Mall. They announced my name after my runs and said nice things when I improved my times. Big thumbs up to Jeff Yeattes & co. for that! Heck, I still look back fondly on Ron Spencer making whinnying noises on the PA when announcing my times at Rocky Mt.

Then people need to step up. Asking people to announce gets a flight/fight response 90% of the time. :)

Teleprompter? Linked to AXWare provided car number linked to database of pithy comments and historical data on said driver and car?

It's like Seinfeld said....“According to most studies, people's number one fear is public speaking. Number two is death. Death is number two. Does that sound right? This means to the average person, if you go to a funeral, you're better off in the casket than doing the eulogy.”

Still finalizing the numbers, but based on what I see right now, looks like we are going to be donating just shy of $6,000 this year. Thanks to all for your generous donation and help in making a great event happen for a great cause.

Pfizer is going to double my contribution. I just put the paperwork in today.
