Are we having an autocross this weekend?

Changed to reflect reality.

48 signed up, I'd hope so. I tried to get a few people but something about "prior engagements".

I'll go ahead and say what everybody else is thinking: I can live with the burden of 10 competition runs.

It's my turn to do some Jonelling.

I was driving back from Brice and Mary's last night, and as I went over a bump in my neighborhood near my house, I heard a click and a pop, saw something fly out from under the car in the mirror, and the exhaust got louder. I was approaching a stop sign, and by the time I had stopped from 45mph, the cabin was full of exhaust. It was bad enough that for the ~30 seconds left of my drive home, I decided to roll down the windows.

It turns out the catalytic converter had become mostly disconnected on the engine side, and some piece of whatever used to hold it together got sucked in and backed up the exhaust. The catalytic converter is toast.

A Berk high flow cat is on order, but definitely won't be here in time for Sunday.

tldr; my car is broken can someone give me a codrive?

Carlton, If you can handle no power, you can codrive the Miata in tire or STR.

That has to be the most "convenient" cat destruction story I've heard recently. Oh, look--daggummit-- My cat done blowed up. Guess I gotta find one of those Berks. What? Full exhausts are on sale too? Shoot, now I can't overlook that.... :P

So the event turned out to be completely dry for all 75 driver's 6 competition runs. We did about 60-80 fun runs and the second group of fun runs folks got a misting of rain and then it stopped for a relatively dry event clean up.

Rob Keehner and I (mostly Rob) came up with a 40 cone course which turned out to be pretty challenging but fun at the same time. We had a hard left after the start to deter launching hard due to site owner recommendation. Because of the cloud cover, the temperature was quite cool and the surface was much more slick than last July which meant that most people who even thought about overdriving was pushing like crazy. So it turned out that patience was very important and driving the right line because it felt like soon as you start pushing, you instantly are 20 feet off line.

Were the BOSS reps there? Any feedback from them?

Nope, I was wondering about that half way through but I was never approached. Maybe they were in the crowd of spectators just watching. I'm sure we'll hear one way or another when Brice gets back. We also have discovered another avenue into autocrossing in Ft. Bragg so we will pursue both in parallel.

I hope everybody enjoyed the course. I tried to use as few cones as possible to make the track have decent flow and east to read. It ended up being a little tighter in spots than planned but the lot always gets smaller when you start tossing cones off the bus. I think I had two DNF's myself  . I told some novices on our course walk that the surface would be slick, I should have listened to myself.

I really enjoyed the layout guys, and it was great working with you Rob for the first time. Hopefully we can get you back out to help EC another event! Only if Heidi can come too, though :sing: .

Here is my fastest run from sunday, 39.6 something another. Love the "go pro face" in the beginning. http://youtu.be/8MXq0x1ZzbI

Good event all around. I actually enjoyed the course more than I thought I would, but I never did feel like I got that down hill Chicago box right. That was on me always carrying a bit too much speed in there.

Thanks to all who made it happen!
