Interesting changes afoot next to the VDA at NCCAR. Do I spy a semi-permanent rallycross course? And by extension, have they shelved the idea of expanding the VDA?

I know our rallyx program went there once. But from what I heard it was very very rocky.

LOL.... you can still see tire marks from our sweepers. Looks like had fun w/ a skip pad dead center of the track.

Are you remembering Danville (old garbage dump by the airport)? NCCAR was a little bumpy, and very dusty when we were there, but I don't recall any rocks. Now the Danville rally-x site at the Advanced Vehicle Research site was rife with big rocks, slick, deep mud, and old dump debris (milk jugs and bottles) rising to the top of our tracks. I hit something so hard that it collapsed the oil pan. There is a reason we didn't go back. Of course getting to watch the advanced military off road vehicle run was possibly worth the trip up and the digging our truck and car trailer out of the mud. We should have canceled that since it had been raining solid for a week.

So, what sort of an event is an EV Challenge?

Electric car event. Home built electric cars, or trucks. Ford ranger , triumph various. All compete as long as they can, on a autocross course. its good fun, becasue the batteries weigh alot, and these heavy ass cars spin tires to get around the course.nissan leaf, hint hint.

Good stuff, i would do a pickup. because you could put them in the bed.

I got two rallycars, mine and the sentra. Lets go back, heck if it aint too bad... I may run the wrx.I miss the mud of the other site. I love little else than playing in deep mud. Heavy equipment school for me, was about as good as it got.

Agreed. I thought this was a nice event although there were a lot of branches in with the dusty dirt that I hit. Beyond that it was rather smooth - just really dusty! Danville was pretty rough - wish it was nicer since it was a great location for me

Yes, I was thinking of the old garbage dump location. That place would be great to run if we could get somebody with a Bobcat down there to groom a track for us.

The times there are all wrong right? IIRC the EV challenge @ NCCAR event usually starts at 11 or so with first car off at 12?

Almost, EV challenge starts at 9 and ends at 11. Our event starts at noon and you can walk the course starting around 11:30 once they get it tweaked.

Schedule for the event:

EV challenege 9-11
Registration for our event: 10-11:15
Course changeover: 11-whenever it gets done
Novice walkthrough: 11:30
Drivers meeting immediately following walkthrough
First car off as close to noon as we can get it.

We do need a small amount of people to get there early enough to help with the EV challenge in the morning. Please reply here if you are interested in helping. I only think we need about about 10 or so.
