I was wondering why Noah's RX-8 (which is STX) has a more advantageous PAX than my car (which is 100% sock with crappy all seasons on it) in Cstock. So, I went ahead and read the SCAA car class rules (and got a headache). Is there some nuance of the rules that I've missed? It seems like the stock class allows no preparation, but has a better PAX.

I must admit that I am completely confused now.

Brett

you can register for RT and get a 2% PAX discount though if you are on street tires.

Interesting. So from a PAX standpoint, in stock class you are treated as though you are running R-comps, even if you are not?

Exactly Bill. One way to always look at PAX is that it is devised through the large nationwide SCCA events and based on the fastest cars of each class' finishers through the year. So, that's why you'll hear folks say 'pax sucks' because their cars aren't up to the very, very top level of build.

The RT class has the 2% discount due to being on 'road tires' that are over 140 (I think) treadwear.

Yes, ST* classes actually make your car slower, even with all the suspension and exhaust and ecu tuning etc....all because of street tires vs rcomps.

Ok, so I screwed myself in the PAX by saying my car was all stock because it was assumed I was going tire crazy.

I guess my car is now in STX.

RT C-stock PAX = .834 x .98 = .817
STX PAX = .827

Register for RT class and you will have a better PAX.

Is there a Novice Street tire class, like there was for Novice C-Stock? Sorry for the probably basic questions, the rules are a bit more complicated than they are in rallycross.

Nope. Novice is a class category just like RT. Your best bet would be to run your ST* class in NOV for the best pax.

Street tire novice, got it.

I think I'll paint that on my car so I remember it.

What Zach said was to run your ST* class, which would be STX (street touring extreme). Once you are out of Novice class you can run other classes like RT or open STX, CS, etc.
