Special thanks to Chris Peterson and Jim Pastorius for working and taking care of Impound this weekend. I appreciate the fine jobs you did. :D

It was a TOUGH job, let me tell you! :D

The funniest part was asking the BSP guys to 'lift their hoods'. Seemed like an innocent request! I got some strange looks and one said 'gee, I've never had a woman say THAT to me before'.

Congrats to the Tarheel crew competing this weekend. I think we had a terrific showing!!

THSCC did a great job down in Rainlanta. I would love to run that site in dry, just once!

The ES competition was what we had hoped for. After the Saturday runs, the top 4 ES drivers were within 1/2 second. I was trailing my co-driver by 7/100 of a second.

Sunday, being the second driver bit me. Rain started to fall on the first run group. ES was the first cars out. With every driver the course's condition got worse. We had to stand on our first runs. The first ES driver posted the best raw time of Sunday and he was a full 2 seconds behind us on Saturday. It was a strange morning.

Congrats to Tom for the 2nd overall PAX. He was on fire. I believe STX had 5 of the top 6 PAX times. And there were only 2 trophies for the class. Now that sucks. We needed a WAX (Weather Autocross Index). The course would dry out for a heat and then the skies would open up on the next heat. Or worse, open up in the middle of a heat. Heat 1 (ES) never did have a dry or drying course.

I was pretty happy I sent corner workers running both Saturday and Sunday. That was a personal best for me :)

Each day’s course was awesome! It was too bad we made all our runs in the wet but it was still fun as heck anyway. I’d give Jim P’s right arm to have a site like that around here! :P

Actually, I did manage to post a 1/10 second faster time than the first ES driver (I was 4th out) and he did have a cone. Needless to say, with him being 2 seconds off the pace the previous day, the conditions were going downhill fast. Each subsequent run was nearly 1 second slower than the first although I must say my last run was somewhat hampered by a bad choice of air pressure in the tires. Jim and I learned a valuable bit of information about how little air pressure the SO4’s will tolerate before totally going off on the MR2.

All in all, it was a great but somewhat soggy weekend. Congrats to all the other Tarheelers on their performance.

Jim

I think most of the Tarheel folks who went down did well. Congrats to all who did well.

I agree with Jim, I would really like to drive that site when the line was completely dry. I loved the elevation changes

STX and all of Heat 2 did get some of the best conditions but thats not saying much since the course never got really dry just less damp. It would almost dry out and then the next band of rain would roll in which sucked as many folks tried to guess which tires to use and then the weather would change as soon as they got ready to run.

Tom was on fire, especially on Sunday (cough....Bastard.....cough). I think he entered "the zone" that you hear folks talk about and he laid down a pretty flawless run on his final run Sunday. They don't happen that often but they sure feel good when they do.

As far as myself, I don't think I drove that well despite finishing 3rd out of 6. The car is good enough that even driven poorly it is still pretty damn fast. The good news is I think I'm learning the car more and I have found some things to improve on. It's surprising how many bad habits I've developed over the years that the Type R sort of covers up.

For those of you have never been to a divisional I'd highly recommend trying one of the other divisional events this year. It was very well run and I think all the tarheel folks who went had a lot of fun despite the rain.

Shawn

Nice going, people. While you were getting rained on in Atlanta, I was getting rained on in the NC mountains. I'll be at one of these this year, though.

Yep, I had already decided that it's gotta be the car that keeps beating me, because you guys just plain suck. :P

Forgot Donna! First in GSL although second was a rookie offering no competition @ 10 sec back. She would have been third on Sat, and 6th for the event in GS open. (She ran a conservative 3rd run on Sun after a DNF and a coned run.)
Results are squewed badly by the weather, with Tom paxing second to a FJr Kart!
I really felt bad for the Prepared and Mod cars, since the sky opened up on the beginning of their heat each day.

I keep on telling people its the car. Its just stupid fast.

Aside from the Jr Karts, STX did have the dryest runs, so the PAX results are definetly skewed in our favor.

edit: NOT looking forward to Gainesville anymore after finding out its almost 600 miles......

Not when Laurens and Virginia Beach are a lot closer and better sites. So your car is the exception to the 90% driver, 10% car rule? I don't believe it.

If 10% car is the rule, thats a pretty big window, on a 60 second course that is like 6 seconds. 6 seconds can make up for alot of bad driving. :D

Yeah, thats exactly why Tom's running 3 seconds faster than me, its all in the car, heck in Danville he was only 6% faster, thats totally in the car...

It WAS a tough job, but someone had to do it! Poor Jim must of dripped water for ten minutes after he left his shift on Saturday! He worked with no rain jacket and it poured. :( By the time I checked in on the shift it was almost over and too late to retrieve his jacket for him.

No worries Tom! :D I was just using that event for DC practice anyway. I'm still disappointed with myself for not staying towards the top of open on Sunday. :( I think I just didn't keep my foot in it as long as I should have...a little concerned about traction in the wet.
The girl who ran in GSL with me is very nice, been driving about two years, but not enough seat time yet. She asked me next time we run together to work with her and give her some pointers...maybe in Laurens.
