Like it says, what prep work have you done? Looking forward to driving the mazda for this year, this will be my first year running a front wheel drive car out of the 13 years I've been w/ the club. Should be fun learning the dynamics. So, for the 3, I've....

> bought a 2nd set of wheels that are my daily drivers and running Conti DWS for normal driving
> painted and prepped the stock wheels for autox, impossible to find aftermarket 6 1/2" wide wheels for that car
> installing R-S3's tomorrow, Jeb should luv me, not...
> Bilsteins installed
> adjustable rear bar installed
> alignment setup for Fri per Steve's recommendation to have them mark zero, 1/8, 1/4 and 1/2 toe out
> new rear brake pads
> cut out replacement class letters, others were beat.
> installing speed3 exhaust this Fri

....and that's about all I can do the car. Hope to have a fun year co-driving w/ Jordan. I sincerely hope he beats my times this year.

Here's my list:

-spent 40 hours adding 40 pounds to the car with f&r A/D/S component sets, all new wiring, new headunit and PPI amplifier (not really a go fast mod, but it sounds killer)
-paint calipers OE gray instead of the stunna red it came with
-new front rotors & OE pads f/r
-new catalytic converter
-revalved Bilsteins are going on the car today
-picked up a set of 11 lb. Millenia wheels
-order a set of r-comps next week (on the fence b/t 225/50 v710's or the new BFG R1-S)
-new number mags being made by Jack Rabbit Signs today
-sold AEM intake and installed a stock airbox/filter
-replaced all belts, water pump
-alignment with Janko after shocks are done

Whew nellie, little did I know I was starting prep for 2013 in September 2012 :stick:

Done-
-Custom valved Bilstein struts/shocks
-Custom front coilovers and rear lowering springs
-Adjustable Front LCA
-Adjustable Rear UCA
-17x7.5" Wheels with now obsolete Z1 Star Specs
-New ignition coil and plugs
-New timing belt/tensioner/pullies (Thanks Vincent and Stephen for the help)
-28.3mm rear sway bar
-SCT Tuner with custom tune
-Removed 3rd muffler from stock exhaust
-K&N Panel Filter
-New Kenwood CD player (Much like Matt, gotta have some good sounding tunes, have some MB Quarts I was going to put in but the stock stuff sounds better than it should)

To Do-
-Underdrive pulley and new serpentine belt
-Re-work rear spring mounts to get the car a bit lower
-Re-work exhaust to get just a little more sound

Yes, that's a ton of work to go slow :stick:

Not because they needed it, but had them rework the valving to get a bit more range in rebound. I wanted them checked out as I've never owned pimpy shocks before, so i sent them in for examination--wasn't much more $ to do the extra work.

Don't worry, James--you'll still crush me

No, I was concerned given I told Ram to buy penskes but I thought you implied they were leaky/clunking/misperforming and *required* a revalve :).

Yup.

The BRZ is meeting expectations.

I do plan a sway bar for it sometime soon. I'm also getting bits together for video/data.

They weren't leaky at all, and performed very well. On teardown/inspection nothing was broken, the pre-breakdown dyno plot was the same as the post-construction dyno. (I'm no shock engineer, so I may have the terms wrong) There was a small component near a "head valve" which was a little loose, and he said could cause some high frequency rattle. Would I buy them again? Probably. Are they the best shock for this car? I doubt it. I'm sure all the "big name" manufacturers make great shocks, and I likely can't tell much of a difference between Penske, moton, JRZ, etc etc. I went with the 7500DA because they are light (3.5 lbs or so) have no remote canister to route and Penske has a great track record. I didn't pony up for 8300s mostly because of cost, and I didn't feel like dealing with the remote reservoir routing. Also, they don't have a point penalty if you do NASA autocross, where as shocks with remote reservoirs do.

Done:
1) Took EVO Phase 2 School
2) Changed springs for improved compliance and hoped for improve F/R balance
3) Bought new brake pads for hoped for improved braking response
4) Bought SoloStorm software, etc. for between run analysis. SS will use DL1 data
5) Added wheel speed and throttle position sensors for DL1 and significantly improved overall DL1/Video4 installation to permit use and towing in the rain
6) Added screen over carb vent openings and "dealt with" potential rtv bits in engine cover bodywork that clogged the primary main jet at Nationals

To Do:
1) Install brake pads
2) Do leak down test . . . engine was used HARD last year . . . fingers crossed
3) Check valve adjustment
4) Wait for warm weather

I increased the left rear shock rebound to match the right rear shock rebound.
