This might be because the 'thscc' wireless network has no internet connection. Most smartphones disconnect their mobile data when connected to wifi, so you probably had all your apps syncing data and timing out indefinitely (and draining battery in the process) since they couldn't reach the internet.

Good to see you out there Karl!

Thanks Shawn for posting the pics! I had a great time in the snow. I actually preferred that to rain and 37 degrees out. Would have been interesting if it had stuck!

As for Sunday, great event and a very good turn out considering conditions. I think the new to me ride was setup OK for wet and cold conditions, but I have no clue about warm and sticky. Time will tell. I did start driving the 3 w/ 1/4" toe out and it was undriveable, rotated at the drop of a hat. My apologies to the corner workers on Sat ;) Dialed that back to 1/8" toe out and found the sweat spot to be ~8lbs difference of air pressure from front to back.

It was interesting learning a front wheel drive car. Just a little trail braking and the rear would come around. I got to the point where I could start counter steering correctly, at first it was just too much counter steering. I felt I drove the car ok for my first serious event. Hopefully I'll get better at this beast, just need some seat time.

Also a big shout out to everyone that made this event happen. It was interesting "just being part of the group" this go round

I dunno who was driving the blue Mustang with "NOV" on the side, but whoever it was, that guy looks like he's really good. And I was paying attention, too, because usually when I see an obviously very fast Mustang with "NOV" written on it, I run for cover. :)

The guy in the blue Mustang is Mike, friend of Jenn Vance. He is truly and autocross novice too, just his second event, though he has done quite a few track events one under the tutelage of Vincent Keene. He was very fast at his first event last year, if he decides to come to more autocrosses, expect to see fast times from him, he's talented. BTW, his Mustang makes 509 wheel torks! Oh my! Makes my Vette seem kinda wimpy.

Yeah I instructed Michael Lin at VIR in his Cobra. He can definitely wheel that car.

My favorite thing was a quote from him as we were discussing what each did for a living. Michael said "I work on BMWs for a living, but I certainly wouldn't own one!".

His last name is actually Torrance VK, Chris Lin was a different Asian guy that autocrossed a few years ago.

Hmmm...am I thinking of the same guy, but wrong name? The guy I instructed is a mechanic, and Asian IIRC.

Yep, Mike Torrance was your student in the blue supercharged Cobra at VIR in September, he is Asian, or at least somewhat, if I had to venture a guess I'd bet he has one Caucasian parent and one Asian. Your getting old VK.

Fun event, thanks to all involved. Working the course was brutal, however, especially out there in Siberia (aka Station 3).

Was the course the same between Sat. and Sun?

Smile were having fun.

The Guthrie BMW getting ready to tackle the course in Bavarian Winter conditions.

I was working start for the first heat and I had the pleasure of watching Rodney on the untimed course. I swear he was running every other lap and every time he went around the turn around he was completely sideways. 1/4" of rear toe out is apparently a bit much for 36 degrees and snowy :D

fwd cars can be made to be fun. i enjoyed my fwd nissan on asphalt and on dirt is a hoot.the 325is is sideways every time you turn the wheel, or hit the gas or anything. it is a driver control learning tool if there ever was one.

The fronts were diggin hard, but I think I have too much rear bar. It was tough to keep it pointed straight - but a hoot to drive.
