Hoping for a fire sale on the Z1's around that time, as the mazda will need new street tires, and I can't stand these Hankook's (evo V12's) lack of grip. Craving good [extreme] street tires again. . .

No fire sale on the Z1's, the have been putting them on sale periodically the last 6 months to cleanse the inventory :(

I keep checking back on Tirerack for the DZ1's clearance pricing. Any idea when TireRack has their fire sale on DZ1's? The prices have dropped slightly, but not fire sale reductions.

Many of the popular ST sizes of the Z1 are already sold out or nearly sold out at the Tire Rack. We may have a few odd sizes that may eventually be discounted, but our inventory levels are low for most sizes.

If you have a specific size you are curious about, I can help.

The new ZII is expected to go live on our website within the next week, ETA's will begin to firm up at that time as well.

More streetable in dry, warm weather. Less streetable in cold and/or wet weather. :)

I need the RTR tires before my April release date. How bad would RS3's with a codriver be? Would I be giving up alot to the Star Specs? for locals would it not make a ton of difference? Overheating?

You need to do some reading. RS-3's like the heat but not so much the cold.

RS3s would be fine in a double wishbone car and they love heat, so you'll be fine. The softish sidewalls would like a bit more tire pressure though (compared to the SS).

So after being in then out and in then out again, I've finally decided to run TIR again in 2013. The fact that I can now run in SCCA events in a Tire class and the fact that I don't have to haul tires in my car and change at the site were the big factors. I'm going to start off with Z1 star specs since you can't the Z2's yet. I'm looking forward to a great class this year.

I think that's the intended effect. Looking forward to a great year!

I'm not gonna wear my autox street tires out by driving on them. I'm still gonna be that guy that changes tires at events

I think I'll swap out the tires the night before and bring the streets just in case. Matt had already added a trailer hitch to the car and I've added a wiring harness, so I'm good to roll. Looking forward to learning the 3 this year and the front wheel drive dynamics.

I drove a grand total of 3500 miles on my S2000 last year, some DD duty (once/week) but mostly highway miles to the ~15 events I attended. Pretty sure that added <zero> noticeable wear to the tires. Guess it depends on how often you'll be driving the RX-8, right?

Not gonna stop you if you still want to change tires in August. I might even help you out, you know--to be charitable to my traitor NCR peeps :stick:

it gets rarely driven. Think I put 5000 miles on it last year. But I am going to try and maximize grip (is that even a term) and heat cycles it gets since it will generally be codriven next year. I'm odd that way, yeah I know

The RS2s heat cycled into bricks from full tread with DDing and they still had 4/32" tread left. That being said, Jeremy and I swap our race tires/wheels at events with the RS3s to combat that.

Well, the RS-2s sucked in general  , were on a car with little negative camber that you used in your novice or second year of autocross...a different scenario for sure. I've never heard of street driven summer UHP/XHP tires heat cycling from driving to work and sitting at stoplights. My rear Z1* have 5-6/32 tread left and have durometer readings equivalent to my new tires. <shrug> Different tires, different scenarios etc etc.

I ran 4 consecutive sets of star specs as street and autocross tires on the mazda and noticed no significant degradation near the end of their life due to heat cycling. Got 15-17k miles and at least one autocross a month out of each set
