I've heard that the site surface is particularly unfriendly to WRX Sti's. You're gonna have to take it easy out there.

if you need any more information, just ask your friendly TIR class competitors

also I heard that the surface is grooved, not sure but heard. Can someone clear this up? If it is I'll keep my old tires on but if not HTR4's for me. Will be by sanford anyway.

I don't recall no grooves. Looked like fairly high grip asphalt to me. Been to the site, but haven't driven on it.

It has been several years since I was at Danville, but at that time it was mostly good smooth asphalt. A couple of areas that might be used for parts of the course were a little tired/sandy (usually right at the start and then the finish). Unless somebody who has been there recently tells you differently, the asphalt should be both decent grip and easy on your tires. MUCH better than Sanford but not as good as VMP (except smoother than VMP). Maybe more like RBC. The pit area is sandy so if you have R tires or slicks you will need to "brush" off the sand. Nothing like the gravel of Sanford.

Very funny Jim!! I am hopefully getting an alignment tomorrow to get my 0 front and -2 rear camber fixed. I am anticipating your defeat. Maybe??

okay so I'll change my tires and use the old ones for Laurinburg( considering that place took a good 5-6/32" off them to begin with, okay maybe not that much)

It's been a couple years since we ran at Danville. At that time the main runway from the taxiway crossover and the taxiway was high grip smooth asphalt. It used to be my favorite site when it was being used more. The taxiway is a little wider than Sanford's, but is only connected to the main runway at one end which limits it's possibilities. The connection allows for a large sweeper turn. The main runway is significantly wider than Sanford so allows for more course variations. I am looking forward to seeing what "TEAM YELLOW SPYDER" comes up with for us.

Marcus,

Looks like it pays to ask! I know you hit 46.xxx. What was your best run? You were flying.

(I knew I should have bought a white STi...I heard that they were faster...)

Not sure where my speed came from. I was over driving my tires. That rear sway bar made my car push and I was expecting to be slow after my first run. I think my car makes up for my poor technique. Anywho, thanks Jim and Chris. See you next time.

Marcus

The car can only account for so much. That was some pretty amazing driving. Please tell me you've done over 100 events, at least four Evolution Schools, and been to Nationals a few times. :) If your background is another one of those guys with less than ten events and you just happen to be driving that fast already....... I think I'm going to take up ping pong as a full time hobby. :leave:

Chris Landi, I'm glad to have you on board with us in AS. Dan will be a great example to follow. He's pretty good at this and a very seasoned competitor. And heck, he's such a nice guy, and a great sport, that I don't even mind losing to him anymore! We were both in FS one year and I had a lot of fun battling it out with him. He beat up on me pretty bad back then too. It's nice to bring back a great rivalry.

I'm beginning to think that until I get an AWD Corvette, I'm not going to have much of a chance against you Scubyru guys on those gritty surfaces!
:boohoo:

It's going to be a fun year. I just want you to know that I'm going to look into having all of our events in 2005 at Laurinburg. :)

See you at the next sandpile in May.... Sanford.

And Marcus, my advice must not be too bad. I helped coach Graham into beating me on Sunday. Maybe I should just showup from now on as the official novice instructor. uhmm... "Those that can't do ... teach."

Well, Marcus, you're following in line with some great guys that have come before you and kinda done the same thing....

Dan Ecclestone was like that when he started. I'll never forget that. He was in novice class, on street tires in a Countour SVT, and placed in the top ten pax. We all kind a went.. who was that guy? There are others.. like Kevin Allen, Donnie Barnes, and the list goes on. Mike Whitney and Shawn Whipple were too fast, too quick. Let's see, Tom Hoppe comes to mind too, but he had some track experience.

Marcus, looks like you've got some natural talent for this. Stick with it, learn from the really fast guys, and in another year... who knows....

Somebody has got to let me co-drive with them in an STI some event so I can see what the magic is all about. :)
