So, anyone hear anything about it so far? There is a rumor that NCR is trying to secure Cherry Point. I wish there was at least a calendar date by now as we all need to plan our vacation and life around it right ? :)

I will post details as soon as I know. The core of NCR is working their tails off to get this done. We are being held up by the MCAS to an extent now. I will try and update this as much as possible when information becomes available to me.

The 2012 North Carolina Autocross Championship will be October 6-7 at Cherry Point Marine Corp Air Station in Havelock, NC. We don't have many details hammered out yet but we'll be working on those immediately. We should have everything ready to go and registration open in a couple weeks.

A few notes about Cherry Point since it is an active Military base: Pre-registration will be required. That pre-registration will have a set closing date 2 weeks before the event, once it's closed it's closed. As part of that pre-registration participants will have to provide a little more information than they're used to giving for an autocross entry but its the only way the Marine Corp will let us autocross on their taxiway. There will be no camping on site and we will have final word on leaving cars/trailers overnight before we open registration. I know it all sounds like lots of hoops to jump through, but everyone who's ever come to Cherry Point agrees its completely worth it!

We realize its crunch time and are doing everything we can to release more details about the event. As we work things out they will be posted on the forums.

I will be helping NCR with setup and planning for this event. Feel free to email me, pm me or post in this thread any questions. If I can't answer immediately I will get up with NCR Solo Chair Chris Severt asap.

Looking forward to this being an amazing event.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Cost: $60

Trailers/cars left on site: no word yet. Think of it like this, it has been approved on every level up the military hierarchy and is sitting on the base commanders desk. Hope to have an answer this time next week.

Awesome!!! I've been wanting to go the Cherry Point for a year but never could with the schedules.

So, the million dollar question, can we get 40-50 thscc members out there? 8)

However would you find a suitable replacement to autocross if you did break the Mazda, its not like you have a Bullitt Mustang that you could autocross in its place or anything. :)

What I love most about our club is that irony and sarcasm are perfectly acceptable forms of communication. :P

I plan on being there for the first time ever (first time for cherry point and first time for ncac). Should be on some decent tires too. Can't wait.

Ncac typically is just 3 runs per day right?

No, 4 and 4 or if Sunday is a quiet hour day, 5 and 3. Given the low turnout from Highland and CCR, I'd say we might get more runs.

No quiet hour on Sunday.

Sometimes they even throw in "the sound of freedom" (jet airplane noise) for free

Yeah, if Cherry Point is anything like Luke AFB was when I was stationed there, Sunday mornings starting around 7AM was F16 engine throttle testing time, they would sit on the flight line "idling" and blip the throttle fully open repeatedly for what felt like hours on end, at least in my hung over state that is what it felt like. I'm pretty sure they did this on purpose as the junior Airmen dorms were just a couple blocks from the flight line and they knew most of us were hung over trying to sleep it off at the time. :-) Luke was the F16 training base and the primary aircraft were therefor F16s, but occasionally visiting aircraft would make their presence known bright and early Sunday mornings as well, I remember one particular morning when a B52 was circling the base endlessly at very low altitude early one Sunday morning, very kind of them. "Quiet Hour" I think not, Ryan's "Sound of Freedom" is far more likely, hey, at the very least my vette won't seem loud at all relatively. :D
