It's about that time for the Eighth Annual Jimmy V Foundation THSCC Charity Autocross and this year we're featuring it at a brand new site down in Fayetteville at the Crown Coliseum. They're happy to have us there and the site looks like a fun place to have a great two-day event with all proceeds going to the V Foundation in their quest to find a cure for cancer. A tradition started in Sanford in 2005 at Slalomania by Wes Eargle and after seven years Tarheel Sports Car Club has contributed over $37,000. To aid the cause, we'll be doing our traditional raffle for great prizes donated by our club sponsors with all types of fun automotive related goodies. As always, side bets (with the option to pocket proceeds or donate all or a portion of winnings) are welcome along with any 'smack talking' to always make things a little interesting.

Please feel free to help the club by spreading the word to local autocross clubs and car enthusiasts in the area, as the bigger the turnout, the more fun and more opportunity to help a wonderful cause. Also, be sure to check out the Facebook Event we've created. With less than three weeks to go your hard at work THSCC officers are finalizing some of the finer details and as always, updates will be posted in this thread and on the Facebook page for those that aren't yet members with access to the forums.

The new site is a fairly open, slightly off camber lot on the east end of the coliseum and the surface is relatively unobstructed and a smooth sealed surface similar to the old Greenville auction lot. The layout gives plenty of course design options and should be enough surface to have a fun 45-60 second course. The surface may be a little warmer than our usual airport lots so please bring plenty of extra fluids to enjoy the weekend comfortably. Also, they are allowing us to use the indoor restroom facilities with a/c to cool down from the July heat. To respect the site and the folks that live in the area, we ask that any exceptionally loud vehicles (>~100 db. or so) please take whatever measures you can to tone it down as we'd love to have an opportunity to have future events here.

Here's a glimpse of the lot (disregard the grey photoshopped lines):

We hope to see everyone there!

What about the way we did it last year, one, the other or both being points days. There is a long history of this type event format for THSCC, was this not popular last year?

The only downside to that Les is that we'd be using the same course both days. We've been talking about mixing it up from day one to day two even if it's more work for course designers. :P

Plus, the surface looks pretty tire-friendly but two courses would be better on tires too. It's not that it was unpopular last year (or so I gathered) but with the new site, why not generate two courses instead of 6-10 runs on the same layout?

I like Les's idea. Maybe run it backwards the second day

Downside, upside, depends on one's perspective, I view two days look at the same course as a very rare upside advantage not to mention it allows folks who can't make either day still for whatever reason able to still be competitors rather than just "fun" runners.

If you look at last year, there were very few people who care about points who did not come on both days (most of those people came on Sunday). That being said, I'd assume most 2 day folks would prefer a different course each day and they are the one making the V foundation the most of the money.

I'll be honest, after 15 runs (5 Sat, 5 Sun, 5 bracket races) last year on the same course (which I designed and thoroughly enjoyed), I was still bored so I think a different coure each day would have been fun.

This is the point of the poll. There are going to be some people who can't make it *and* want to be in the running for points, so we are trying to appease this minority.

I would prefer different courses for each day by a long shot. I get bored after too many runs on one course. I would also prefer that one by clockwise and one counterclockwise for tire wear reasons.

it amuses me that you guys say you get bored running the same configuration............. but that is a topic for another day.

i for one would suggest that each day be available for points but only one day count toward the season total. i'm sure flipping an element or two overnight would provide enough variety for the "both days" crowd. might even boost two day attendance.

I generally wouldn't care which day was for points, but I have a season pass this year (which includes the points events only), and that Sunday happens to be the date for a local mountain bike race (Huck-A-Buck at Lake Crabtree) that I plan to participate in. So my vote is for points event on Saturday, as it's been listed on the THSCC calendar all year. If the date for the points event is changed to Sunday, please make that decision ASAP as I'm sure I'm not the only one that's been planning my schedule based on the published THSCC Calendar.

Sorry about the confusion Keith, it's been a very challenging year as far as sites and scheduling go and we're pretty fortunate that we landed this site for the event after losing Sanford. I hate that I'll miss the Huck-A-Buck (think I've made it 3-4 years running) but have a good time if you make it.

Poll will be open until Thursday evening, then the website will be finalized regarding the Points Event day.

Just changed my vote from Sunday to Saturday. We should respect what was on the schedule.

*Cough* if we applied my suggested format we wouldn't have this problem, I'm just sayin'. :D

Proposal: 2 different courses during the weekend. 1 or both counts for points.

If you come to both days, you sum time is your time for the points event.

If you come to just Saturday, you will get a delta added to your Saturday time (could be positive or negative) to serve as your Sunday time.

If you come to just Sunday, you will get a delta added to your Sunday time (could be positive or negative) to serve as your Saturday time.

The delta would be determined by taking only people who attended both days. Take the average time of all of those participants on Saturday minus the average time of those same participants on Sunday. I'd say if there are 50+ 2 day people, this would be pretty accurate even with a few outliers who have great times one day and terrible times the next.

This is also equivalent to saying your average time over 2 days is your points time and for those 1 day folks, you take your time +- 0.5*delta
