Big thanks to all who had a hand in putting this event together, someone should have warned me though that they were gonna make a serious power course, I felt like I came to a gun fight with a knife. Regardless, I had fun and it was good just to get out again, however I would have had more fun in the vette, let's do that exact same course again there soon. :D

I mentioned to a few people that today was essentially my 15th anniversary autocross event, though my first event was actually June 8th, 1997 and yes, it was with Triad but I lived in Thomasville NC at the time so I had an excuse. I'm pretty sure I have autocrossed in Danville most every June since then. I recently happened upon my actual newsletter from that event and took a look at the results again tonight, though there are quite a few names that many people would recognize the only person I see in the results that happened to also be at the event today was Shawn Whipple. Shawn was driving a Neon and came in 15th of 17 in street tire and I came 12th of 24 in novice. Shawn has made quite the improvement of the past 15 years as he dominated street tire class today, me, not so much as I couldn't even manage a trophy. :( Maybe with 15 more years of practice I can manage a win.

I brought a dull stick to the gun fight :( . Wish I'd brought the other car too.

Eric did a great job on the layout. The course was great good speed elements - low conage factor - and easily straightforward. Didn't require a lot of thinking about where to run but required good driving skills. I had several novices comment on how easy the course was to find.

This was fun....

Great event. Great course. Had FUN . . . especially AFTER I found out the display was lying when it gave me 59 second times.

+1 on the awesome layout!

It was a great shakedown event for the Mazda6. I learned the car is really hard to drive with the rear wheels locking up at every brake point. It took me four runs to remember that I had pulled the ABS fuse a couple weeks ago (DOH!). ABS=good.

The day ended a bit early with the failure of a 15 cent part. The cap on the heater hose outlet of the water pump started leaking.

Awesome day, tons of fun, great folks (as usual)!

+1 on the mad course-design props. The low coneage was essential since we were so thin on course-workers. Heat 2 got a little dicey since it was almost all novices out there, but everyone was trying really hard and doing a great job overall.

Did I see someone taking pictures at the sweeper? Anybody know who? I was hoping to get a look at how much body roll I have now with my new springs and sway bars.
Thanks

I think that was Noah's significant other. He said she got 3000+ pictures :). Hopefully they'll be posted soon :).

Great course, well run event, good times all around. I'd complain about the heat but that is so much better than rain I won't. Thanks to all the event chairs, course designers, VP's etc, etc.

Since Les brought it up, I think that Danville event 15 years ago was my first event on that site. It was when my wife was pregnent with our daughter (who is now almost 15) driving the 97 ACR Neon. And as Les pointed out I got crushed. Got crushed a lot in that Neon.

Thanks again.

Loved the course. Event went really well even if my car didn't.

Here's another vid. This is what happens when you charge into the 1st turn and the rear brakes lock up.

Notice how supportive and helpful our AutoX VP was in diagnosing the problem. :D

Fun time for sure out there and thanks to everyone that volunteered to make things run smooth. Also, the t-shirts are pretty sweet too and I think I'm going to nab another at the meeting.

The course was a blast and the big 6-cone slalom was my favorite of the year.

Matt, how hard do you launch the car? It seems I get to the first turn about the same time you do in my Miata as you do in the S2000. I would have never guessed it was even close.
