Jason for president!

I've spent my morning cold calling places, we will see what happens.

Brice, there may be one option that may be worth pursuing here in Wilson. Since the Sears left the mall, the rear of the entire mall is pretty much unused these days.

Might be worth a call. :whoknows:

I am just thinking out loud here.

Why don't we have the places come to us instead of THSCC trying to seek them out? Contact the local commercial real estate association and tell them that the club is willing to rent out space at $XXX a day, that we carry full liability insurance and have decades of experience. I am sure that some owner that has a space sitting there costing him money would be more than happy to rent it out with no cost to them.

I'm wondering if it would be worthwhile to talk to the City Manager about renting City Space available. God knows the city needs money and we can see if they have requirements we could meet. Benefit could be to take drivers off the street. Maybe we could offer to host some kind of car meet or something to "give back" to the city. It's possible we might find an open ear, you never know who might be a car guy.

I also think Marty's idea has merit.

Well that really isn't good news for me, since I live like 20 minutes south of that site. NCR actually had this same issue earlier in the year and had contemplated moving west a little more. There was some discussion about trying some sites in the Fort Bragg / Fayetteville area but I don't know where they ended up. I think their was a lot of resistance to going across I95 to be honest. I know the Crown Center (grid coord. 35.016070 -78.893987) was suggested and one place I had though about was the Fort Bragg Fairgrounds (grid coord. 35.128517,-78.960854). The Fort Bragg Fairgrounds may be reaching a bit but the Crown Center maybe viable. I could possibly ask around post and see if I can dig up a POC for the fairgrounds but I don't want to step on anyone's toes here.

Please dig and post up!

I know that NCR is still actively pursuing the Crown Center and also sites near Goldsboro and in Lumberton. I can keep you guys posted of any updates or you can contact Chris.

BTW another date was set for little washington for June or July. I don't remember exactly, but expect to see an official announcement soon.

Jeff

Jeff, you wouldn't happen to be able to get some in sight as to who actually sponsors NCR at Cherry Point MCAS would you? Pretty much came up with that MWR (Morale Welfare and Recreation) controls the facility. While MWR does tend to be open to things that potentially have a demand in the community, it never hurts to show that there is actually a demand not being filled. Anyways, the best number I got is the special events office at 910-396-6126 or 9126

I wonder if the USAF has something similar to MWR. The Seymour Johnson base has an interesting X'ed off pad near the end of one runway that looks like a possibility.

What about the global transpark. Did that project ever get off of the ground? Wonder if that's available for use? Too far away?

The commanding general of MCAS Cherry Point ordered the MWR officer to get NCR to run autocross on the base. He heard they ran them at MCAS New River and wanted to do the same at ChPt. At least thats the story I got two years ago.

IIRC several of us went to an event there a couple of years ago when NCR was trying the site. They had rules up the wazoo that included fencing off the area to be used, and a cap of about 85. The weather sucked tht day, but the course area was so bad that we blew it off. Stephen was there too. Pretty much a non starter. Not to put too fine a point on it.

NCR is already working that angle at Seymour Johnson.

From my understanding, the NCR crowd holds a school for grunts on Saturday, to be able to run on Sunday. The only potential future snag for them is if a new CO comes in and doesn't like or doesn't get what "we" do.

Precisely. I have my first cousin who is a F15 pilot working on a few things at SJAFB as well. If we all know someone there and could get them together to pool resources it might be beneficial to THSCC as well as NCR.

Was checking something on Google maps and I saw this, look like a nice lot right here in Apex with nothing close by.
