Ya the drive for me was not bad at all. Maybe just a tad farther than Danville.

I ran 2 59.? which was moving but those damn cones kept falling over from the car going by them so fast

congrats to Wally and Lee for some good CLEAN driving.

I think Chris Severt is working HARD to get NCAC at Cherry Point MCAS. The site is INCREDIBLE! As far as grip yesterday I was very happy with how grippy the concrete was. I saw this as what Laurinburg was prob like many years ago. I coned away a 60.2 (+1) which would have been FTD

Jeremy had a (+2) on his 59.xx so I would have got him anyway 8)

<---- not competitive with his codriver at all :P

I think that Steve summed up the site very well. It was large, primarily long, but with enough width to do a down and back with workers in the middle. And it does remind me of the grip that Laurinburg had. And it also reminds me of the way that Laurinburg is (using the new word in a sentence) spalling, just in the earlier stages.

The course was a blast... very fast in most places. And the slalom, oh my goodness! I love a good slalom and it was monumental. Steve paced it off as 20 some paces but his paces are long. I got 30 paces between cones, equal spacing all the way down. Congrats to the other Tar Heelers on some fine driving. It was obviously difficult to get through that course without hitting something, or for me, DNFing. First time I've ever been first in PAX but I'm not truly convinced that I ran a 60.6. I had several runs at 62.x and that one honestly didn't feel that much different, much less 2 seconds faster. Maybe it was glitch in the space time continuum thingy. I'll have to look at my videos some more and will try to post something if I can figure that out. Also, 4 reruns probably gave me a bit of an advantage too.

Wow! That is awesome on some many levels and the epic slalom was the first thing that jumped out at me after watching Steve's video, other than the great sound of the car at wide open throttle. :P

Big congrats to you Lee and fantastic driving!

I would love to get a look at your video too. I synched my slowest and fastest runs on RaceRender2 last night, and most of the difference (1.5 secs) was in just getting a good start. The rest came from not braking into the turnaround and being aggressive in the slalom.

OK, for what it's worth, my best run (I think) is posted now: http://youtu.be/BfyE-Y_sLHo.

Steve, I'll take a memory stick with the run on it to Danville this weekend. Then you can race render it with your run... if you are interested in doing that. Your run looked really good... very, very smooth, and I'll bet there are quite a few places that I could learn from it.

I REALLY need slalom and lane change practice but . . .

Was this on course? Given my thin aluminum floorpan and no carpet that sounds scary . . . even if Steven is there to patch me up. I still have a dent in the floor from L'burg many years ago.

The white lines are a real help for those of us who are "course memory impaired and sit low to the ground.

Or, is this site iffy for formula cars and shifter karts?

Thanks!

Dick

yes it was on course. As I haven't driven karts or mod cars I can't say with certainty if it's too rough for you. It is not billiard table smooth, and is a little more uneven than Danville. Like mentioned earlier I think it is probably like Laurinburg circa 2000ish.

I suspect the Great Spalling Event of 2012 was an isolated incident. I mean, Ryan wasn't there to advise them about potentially loose sections of concrete, and there is plenty of room for configurations that avoid loose areas.

Monitoring the NCR forum thread....they got great feedback from the folks that run the airport.

Looking forward to the next event.

Ohhh, so it's MY fault  I have been running at L'burg since the late 90's and have never seen such a thing that happened here. Freak accident.
