It looks quite clear to me, but if white-on-yellow doesn't pass the contrast check, I'll paint it all black (and use up the black paint I bought to touch up my die cast model).

Black, dark blue, dark green, dark grey. Lots of options....

Can you post a pic?

Maybe you can get a big sharpie and outline it Bin?

White on yellow is pretty much the exact opposite of contrasting. Black outline might help, but go with a nice dark color for the sake of those who work timing and scoring and course workers calling in cone counts.

Bin, It was nice meeting you on Sunday. White on Yellow may not be enough of a contrast on a bright day. Sharpie would be the quick way. I have never painted magnetics, but I would think the paint would tend to chip or peel. Another option may be to strategicly remove some of the white vinyl from part or all to reveal the black magnet beneath. Would that cause the magnet to curl?

You would be surprised. I had some previous magnetics that I wanted to use for my new car. Old magnetics were blue with a red border. I painted them gold with some paint I had laying around. I added a white border and it all has held up surprisingly well.

A thick black border (or dark border) should fix them right up.

Thanks folks. I only found white flexible magnetic sheet at my local Michaels yesterday. I spent an hour cutting some nice letters and numbers out of it. It has a vinyl surface and I have some black acrylic paint. I think it will stay on vinyl. The only challenge is to paint it evenly. Maybe a better option is to only paint the letters' edge black. I'll try to post a pic later.

Nice meeting you too! The magnetic sheet I bought pretty much is some black magnetic rubber attached to a white piece of vinyl. So if I peel off the vinyl, I fear the rubber won't stay. I'll probably try outlining it, and if that still isn't good, paint it all black.

In addition, spray paints also have a formulation for plastic/vinyl that works very well. It is higher in VOC than typical spray paint so be sure to paint outside or you'll pass out

Bin,

Another option is to buy vinyl adhesive shelf liner and stick it to the magnetic sheet before you cut out the numbers. It is available at Target, etc in a variety of colors (and patterns :D ). I used this method over 10yrs ago and they are still holding up fine.

From 2003:

Same numbers in 2011:

I first used them in 1999, but I don't have a pic of that car. :D

Here's a racey pattern for ya http://www.amazon.com/Kittrich-Corp--Tact-Brand-Covering/dp/B001ARHJ24/ref=sr_1_8?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1329855619&sr=1-8

Also try Lowe's for magnetic stock, look for the vent register covers (where your heat/cooling comes out in your house). I got a pack of about 4 sheets for $7 or so.

I've painted a bunch of numbers, too. Michael's magnetic sheet, Krylon spray paint. Do it - I recommend dark blue to go with yellow. :D
