It was limited to 75. I understand some walkups were turned away.

That's impressive considering it was cold azz January.

Maybe we can discuss this at the next meeting. I'm with Les, if we can get more folks from other clubs too (@ $35 an entry) we can have what looks like a Z-Maxesq site WITH grip. We'll get in touch with the management to see what the rates are. I can't speak for everyone but after you drive 9 hours to bfe South Georgia or The Monster Mile in Dover by yourself at night to go autocrossing, 2-1/4 hrs is nothing.

This tells me that it wouldn't be hard to get 75-80 in October to stay out of the red ink for the day unless the site rental is exorbitant.

The only thing I want to avoid as a club is having only like 30 or so THSCC'ers show up and have people miss the last points event due to distance but if points are close, I think it would be incentive to be there. Guess it's tough to say and we definitely don't want to alienate anyone that live in the opposite direction.

Would our 8th Points Event be a good time to try it out? We still don't have a venue yet.

I think the challenge at VMP is the start time. If local ordinance keeps us from starting before noon (as has been rumored - perhaps someone could confirm), we'll have to limit entries to finish by 5pm. NASA limited it to 75 and as you could see from the video the sun was getting mighty low. The final cars finished right around 5pm - although nearly the entire 2nd heat got re-runs because of timer issues.

It seems a well run event could attract 100+, but could we get it done before dark?

Great point Cash. I don't really thing a Saturday event would be a good option. Breaking Sunday tradition + further site = ???

I will say, when we're on our 'game' and don't have any hangups, we can crank out 94 entires with 5 runs apiece at a new site after an EV Challenge to boot. What time did we wrap up NCCAR, 5ish?

Schedule the event during the DST of the year and it wouldn't be an issue.

I think there were 87 drivers Sunday.
The bleachers are cordoned off so that you can't go under them anymore, and I don't think you could get to them to watch either, but I could be wrong.
Having bathrooms is way cool!
Yes, it's a haul, especially if you're south of the triangle, but good AX locations are dying as are 60+ second courses. I think a well advertised event would bring drivers in.

I wasn't there but it appears that you had closer to a 30 second course rather than 60+ second at that site. :?: That's certainly a time consideration. Before the end of daylight savings time you could pull it off up there on a Sunday, no doubt.

Good point. I just checked and the first half of October has about 1.5 hrs more daylight (~6:40pm) than last Sunday fwiw if we couldn't move it up.

How popular is the Richmond area autocross scene? Maybe co-sponsor the event as a points event for THSCC and a friendly "Border War" of some sort with a VA chapter? Just a thought....

I heard foot steps on the bleachers a few times while I was close. Plus I saw 1 person hanging out underneath.
