well, after reading the STX rules for wheel width and considering my bank account after buying the bullitt, it seems my cheapest way to run in 2012 is in ESP class.

After purchasing a set of 18x9.5 wheels, that's where I'm headed. Either there or SM, depending on if I decide to do cams or not.

Right now, I'm looking at either NT-05s or RS-3s. But I'm looking for a tire that will be fine for autocross, a little street driving and track.

If you'll buy the streets and go ESP, I'll do the same. Would be fun to have some lesser competition to run against. Oh, did I just say that

It's all relative, but excessive wheelspin is still a fact of life with 295 A6s unless you're careful with the throttle.

If you guys have any sort of data acquisition that records longitudinal acceleration you should be able to see how much "full throttle time" you actually had. With a torquey engine it won't be very sensitive to rpm but even then there will be a significant difference in the rate compared to little or no throttle. Therefore the second gear full throttle acceleration trace will tend to be "flat topped" for the duration. You can compare with the speed increase trace since it too will be a relatively constant rate of increase. RPM is nice also if you are hooked into your OBD system or, like me, the ignition.

One of these days I'm going to buy a sensor for my DL1 that records "throttle percent".

FYI I see a lot of flat top longitudinal traces at almost 1/2 g in second gear. CM tends to allow lots of full throttle.

Rodney, I will definitely not be running r-comps. What tires are you going with? I'll try to get something a little less aggressive, so you might have a chance.

Obviously, I'm just kidding.

agreed.... Now I just need to decide what tires to run, only $300 difference between R-S3's and A6's. Would be fun to run GOOD stickies for a year.

Doesn't that math work only until the A6's need to be replaced? Do you REALLY think you will be able to keep the Rear tires from cording all year? Just sayin.... :)

Do yo really think Rodney will own th car for the whole year?

Ha! I'd certainly like to. That's a fun car to drive and w/ the GT500 seats and deeper bolstering, it's very comfortable and holds you in place in the turns. Glad I found this one.

I'm going w/ the 285x35x18 hankook's for next year. According to GRM's test of the best streets, these came out the winner and they are the cheapest. Can't argue w/ that.

That works. I'll get something similar. I might go with something a little less aggressive just because I will be using them on the street quite a bit.

I may also end up in SM if I get those heads/cams that I've been eyeing.

If you go SM, then I may go into TIR via ESP, but that's a tough class and ESP PAX sucks.

Since your car will only be "slightly" ESP and Jason's will only be "slightly" SM versus ESP I suspect, my suggestion would be to compare raw times and even PAX with stock classes (i.e. using the FS TIRE PAX). Another trick I used back in the days before PAX was to compare to the known top cars/drivers by percentage off their times (they were in faster classes than my Lotus). Any time the gap either narrowed or widened I looked hard to find the "real reason" to make sure any change was actually due to either me or my car.

This way you can focus on driving your "not class competitive" car to the best of your ability and keep pushing your ability.

Will the heads/cams help in autocrossing? Especially if you are already traction limited? Take low end away to reduce the low end tire spinning torque?

I doubt they will, but I'm not building an autocross car. If I were, I would start with a better platform for that purpose. I'm just having fun, and it's tough to beat the fun factor and all around general use of the mustang. If all I was after was autocross performance, I'd probably have to consider a setup like you have.
