Rule 10.2:
Quote:
To earn a year-end trophy, the competitor must be a member of THSCC. For Tarheel Sports Car Club year-end trophies, a competitor must enter and run at least one more than half the number of club events. If a competitor has run in a number of different classes, the class for year-end trophies will be given for the class in which the majority of events was run. If an equal number of events was run in multiple classes, the competitor will designate the class. Owners of late model green Miatas may be disqualified at the THSCC President's discretion.
You could run 5 events in 5 different classes and still trophy in one of them. Now if those 5 events were in 4 different classes, you'd be required to trophy in the class in which you ran twice.
The "E" column in the standings take that into account. A "*" means you ran enough events (including Novice, which is not listed for year-end trophies but is included in completed events) and that's your trophy class; a "-" means you ran enough events but another class is your trophy class (look for the "*" in that other class), a "?" (not happened this year) means you ran enough events and this is one of the classes you must choose between for your trophy class.
As an example, Noah Fleming ran all 8 events. He ran three in CS (*) and came 3rd, which is his trophy class; he ran two in STR (-), 2 in TIR (-), and he ran the other one in X (-). In this case the class he ran most events in is also the one he placed highest -- this isn't always the case, and has no bearing on which class he counts for trophies.
Nothing in the E column (like me) means you didn't run enough events.
Yes, the first, seconds, and thirds are only used for a tie-breaker. Another quirk of the rules is you can only count first, seconds, and thirds from the events you count for points, which is why you'll see Art MacDonald listed as only having 6 firsts because the seventh win was in an event he didn't count for points.
Another oddity is a DNF in all runs still counts as an event run, even though it scores no points. Richard Parker in DS in event 1 is an example of that, which is why he's listed with a score of 0 for that event.
As far as I know, the only thing not accounted for in the standings is member status, to which I don't have access. Everything else is handled exactly as per the rules.
