Wow, event number 7 is right around the corner and is at one of our newly acquired sites, NCCAR. I'm very excited about being able to get access to this site for autox, rallyx and our yet to be rescheduled HPDE.

Since this is our 2nd official event at NCCAR and I desperately want to keep this site, let's keep everything uber clean and limit the silliness on and off track. We still have some growing pains w/ this site in regard to setup and keeping things moving. We have a paddock area that's a good distance away from the VDA, so everyone needs to be heads up when driving back and forth from the VDA to paddock and watch for people on the road.

As you know, this place is locked during the event. We are asking Simon and Sam for an access code for the day that we can publish and everyone in the club can use to get in and out of the site. I'm pretty sure we'll have to sign 2 waivers as well, the one for the club and one for NCCAR.

I just checked the entries and we only have 29 drivers so far. I know folks tend to wait till the last minute to sign up, but don't wait too long please. If you're going to drive, please register.

see you on course!!!

Pivot turn? If so, likely outside diameter since I think the first course put a lot of cars into the dirt/grass?

My car has a roughly 40 foot OD turning circle.

Thanks,

Dick

There is a best western at exit 176.

There are lots of hotels at the exit prior (exit 173). I think Rob is staying at the hourly one :).

The width of the track at turn around is about 46-48 ft. People only went into the grass if they were overzealous on carrying speed and or getting back on throttle at exit :). A dumptruck could do a turn around there if they went slowly enough :) (ok that might be a slight exaggeration).

We have an idea that will eliminate that, but need to see if it will work in practice.

How wide is the main straight at NCCAR? How does that compare to the taxiway at Sanford, for example?

Like I said, the main straight is about 46-48 feet wide which is very similar to Danville's taxiway (which we've used for pivots many times). Sanfords taxiway has to be skinnier than that.

Are we going to use any more of the track than the first NCCAR event?

I get hourly points toward free stays.

We can't use the whole track, but we will work with Simon to let us use all we are comfortable with. We may (or may not) eliminate the pivot cone, I have a newfound notdislike of them. :?

Everyone sign up. It is a good facility with good asphalt that they are threatening to make even bigger so if we show enthusiasm it will encourage them to give us even more pavement.

Mandatory quiet time from 11-12 on Sunday, hence the move to Saturday. Sorry Jeremy....

To keep that in perspective, we start our events (first car, that is) at 1030ish, despite our best efforts to the contrary. Would an extra 90 minutes delay be all that bad? Registration closes at 10, driver meeting at 1030, time for coursewalks, then first car off at 12? Is it possible to do driver's meeting during the quiet hour? A late start might have some sunset issues for a March, April or October event, but May-August it could work, just with a later start time. Sure we'd be later getting home, but wouldn't have to get up pre-dawn to get there on time.

I see your point. Me personally, I think we need to strive towards first car off at 9:45 :) (ie really first car will be off at 10). Regardless, we have received feedback that 1-2 Saturday events per season would be desirable. Most of the people echoing this sentiment tend only to come to said events. Not sure why, I doubt it is church related.

Anyway, just relaying data.

Sadly, apparently not:

I can't turn my STi around on the taxiway at Sanford without going in the grass (unless I use the handbrake). Tried it out at the last setup day; needed a few feet of grass. Turning radius is supposed to be around 35 ft, I think. I could just barely stay on the pavement at NCCAR without pulling the handbrake lever (it wasn't working that day). Driving the LizTi made it a lot easier, as her handbrake was working that day.

I won't mind if there's no handbrake turn this time, as my handbrake will probably have trouble locking up R compounds.
