Using Feinbergs PAX as a reference point, a fully prepped SM car should have run a 54.85s and a fully prepped SSM car should have run a 54.48s

I totally believe it because a GS car would have needed a 58.9 to pull off FTP.

The flaw in this theory is that we were running on crap tires, I'm saying, not only different sizes, 16s on the front and 15s on back, but different brands as well. We had Kuhmos from my stack of last year's left overs, and Hoosiers from (seriously) our throw away stack. We had nothing in tires. So, you'd probably have to readjust those times down a bit in the real world.

how does "The Alien" play out in the real world? i'm thinking there is slight of hand involved further evidenced by your claim of different sized rubber Gwen.

something is surely not as simple as it seems............

Well, there's always plausible deniability. But, what's your point?

I don't know about all the pax comparisons, matching tires, etc. blah blah blah, but I would've enjoyed experiencing a sub-55 second run on that course from the driver's seat of my STi. That would be an adrenaline rush. From what I hear, I could've experienced 12 such runs if I had a set of Hoosiers (and maybe another hundred hp).

A real SM STI would have 1000 lb/in springs, boat loads of camber and 315 Hoosiers (plus turbo, tuning etc). It wouldn't be as hard on tires as you'd think.

Dang, I think Steve is calling you a liar Gwen!

That's exactly what we had on the car. The fronts were 215/40-16 Kumhos that were last used sometime in 2010. They have been sitting on a pile in her non-climate controlled garage for the better part of the year and were definitely not fresh any stretch of the imagination. The only reason we grabbed them was that they were the only tires left in our "crappy tire pile" that had any faint semblance of the phantom tire groove.

The rears were 225/45-15 Hoosiers that we were literally getting ready to throw away. They had 60+ runs on them, had been flipped and probably had more rocks in the rubber than rubber. They might last another few runs on the rear of the car without cording but they wouldn't survive more than a 1/2 run on the front. We have at least 6 of them in the same condition and would be happy to sell them for the low low price of $400.

Simple as that...

If you want to pick nits, running 16's on the front with 15's on the back isn't technically legal. You can run 15's or 16's on an HS Mini but you must run the same size all the way around. The good news is that we'll have plenty of fresh 15's to run the rest of the year at local events after we get back from Lincoln. So we'll be legal *and* much faster.

I thought you guys said something about 1.5 year old tires, so bring the numbers (times) down another notch on the benchracing-O-meter.

Doesn't anyone else store their tires in a shed or hot/cold place like a bonehead, as I've always done? I really think I'm going to start keeping them at my store in the warehouse and not the showroom although they'd be a good conversion piece.

The crap tires I store in our house garage (not to be confused with Bernie's "working" garage,) but the good stuff stays covered and either in my office or in our appartment upstairs. You're right Matt, the ones in the office always rate some sort of conversation.

At this point I'd not be opposed to keeping them in the house, but that's a slippery slope. First it's just tires, then it's a tranny.......you see where this could lead?
