Tarheel was well represented at the Charity AX yesterday at the "Black Lake" where >160 drivers got 4 runs on a challenging Nationals caliber (features were all chosen from the past three year's Topeka courses) course. For those who didn't think it was worth the 4 hr drive, you missed one of the year's best!

It was definitely worth the drive - Aaron, Tom & I really sucked the big one during competition, but the fun runs & staring at the hot chicks made up for it. It was also a lot of fun just hanging out & listening to Tom & Aaron's banter. Too bad they're a couple of wussies & had to stop 15 million times to sleep on the way home.

I was pretty bummed after runs, since I thought I had coned both my best runs away, but cheered up a little after seeing the actual results. Definitely need to work on the car AND the driver some more. This was the first time I had met Heyward, seems like a good guy, but he needs to slow down -- I mean, I need to drive faster.

And now for an amusing story (well, it wasn't amusing then, but it is now):

On the way home, I started hearing a banging sound every time I hit a bump, so I pulled into a gas station & wiggled the front wheels - they felt loose (wtf???), so I jacked up the front end a little and loosened, then tightened the lugnuts (even though I had already torqued them down before we left Laurens). Felt tight again when I let the car down, so I headed out. A couple of miles down the road, I heard something bounce & bang down the bottom/left side of the car - okay, I hope that was a rock, I thought. Then I heard the same thing on the other side of the car. Hmmm... I'd better exit. As I head toward the offramp, the front of the car starts "Cadillacing" over the bumps. Uh-oh. I think I know what's wrong. I pull into an Arby's parking lot, shine the flashlight up under the front and confirm that I'm missing the bolts that hold my Koni inserts down tight. Dammit!!! Well, I don't have any replacement bolts, I only have about 90 miles to home, and Anders has driven rally stages with worse, so I keep going. By the time I get home, the suspension sounds like it's going to fall off the car, but I make it in, drive up on ramps, and leave it for Sunday. Replaced all the STUPID, STUPID, STUPID Allen-head bolts with hex-head bolts today, "pro-locked" them and torqued the crap out of them. I don't think I'm going to have this problem again.



Hope everybody else enjoyed the event & the company as much as I did.

Nice showing for all the THSCC members!!! 5 out fo the top 10 PAX times were THSCC members.

That still doesn't make me feel any better about getting waxed at every event . Time and again though, people say how much better THSCC events are run than other clubs'.

I stopped for a cone out of place on the 1st run. They did not post the 4th run of a 43.4...plus one cone. The last cone on the course. I tried to flat foot it through the last 3 cone slamon right before the finish. Hey, if it had work...wow.

The site lived up to all of the hype The course really did rock. Well, worth the time.

I have a question...

What's a "slamon" - I know what a slalom is, and I know what a salmon is, but I've never heard of "slamon" except from Jim P. Do I need to go look it up?

I think the teamunderdog mooning impacted my spelling.

I think that would impact anybody's spelling.

slamon (slam on) adv. the effect of overcooking a feature on an AX course. i.e. "Jim tried to go too fast through the last slalom and hit that cone slamon!"

Jim,

Even though it didn't work, you looked so pleased with yourself regardless when you walked past me and told me "I got too greedy." You looked like you'd just been out there and had a great time.

It was a fun course wasn't it? I'm still scowling at myself for coning away GS, but soon after a smile chases it away.

I don't know what it was about that event. The weather was great, the site lived up to the hype, everyone was friendly and the course was a challenge. I can not remember a local course that was that chalenging to run.

One complaint, when they did not have timer problems, things were moving way too quick. Jim and I had a hard time adjusting pressures and getting belted in before they were waiving us to the line. I think two of my rus I was still adjusting belts when I pulled up to the start line
