how about a ride or drive in a Tesla roadster? I've spoken Bryan and Jenn of EVXP.com. They represent the owners of EVXP.com that own and rent a Tesla roadster. Dustin and I had a meeting w/ Jenn, the media adviser for EVXP ( http://www.evxp.com ) and they would like to bring out the car for display and rides as part of the fund raiser for the Jimmy V. As part of the discussion, we need to gauge interest in folks wanting to either drive or ride along on the autox course.

We are still firming up all of the details, but here's the basics. First, they will allow both ride-alongs and drives. We're going to have to limit the amount of of drives on track to about 25 per day. In regard to pricing, the EVXP folks have agreed to the following; $10 for one ride along on the autox or $20 to drive the Tesla on the autox course. They are also going to allow longer drives on the roads near the training center. Pricing for those longer drives are not established yet. The EVXP folks have stated that the JimmyV will receive a portion of the money after expenses.

So here's a great way to get your hands on a Tesla roadster and give money to the JimmyV at the same time. As I said, this thread is gauge interest and to also sort of pre-book the 25 slots per day. If we can't generate enough interest then the Tesla folks may decided not to attend the event, which I for one would hate to see happen.

So, please let me know if you're interested and would want to either ride or drive the Tesla. Also understand they are out to promote rental of the Tesla. These folks are not cheap, but neither is the car. This can be a great way to look at and drive the car and I would hope to generate some buzz for the EVXP folks.

As a side bar to this, EVXP possibly wants one of our drivers to drive the car during the day for ride-alongs. If you do this, you may not be able to drive in the event, so think carefully before you say yes. EVXP expressly wants someone who is a national level driver and preferably an instructor. I will need your full name and DL number to forward to the EVXP folks for a background check. I know this will be a tough assignment, but in all seriousness, this will be about all you can do during the day. If you want to drive the event as well as possibly pilot the Tesla, that's going to be tough. Now I caveat this in that the EXVP folks may provide their own driver. This is still in the air and not yet decided. EVXP have the final say on the driver for ride-alongs.

OK, so what do you say? Interested? Let me know and post back to this thread and let me know. If you want to be considered for the pilot job during the day, PM me your information.

I bet Jennifer knows how to drive that thing pretty well :).

Rodney, any idea how many total 'runs' both driven and ride alongs would be added to each day? Would it be 25 total? Would there be requirements for a clear course?

Just looking for additional data to keep in mind when designing the course and overlap etc.

Dustin and I debated this and 25 total runs for each day. Don't need a clear course to run the Tesla, this isn't like the f125 karts. Overlap for this event will be very important considering we want to run bracket races at the end of the event both days, so please keep that in mind when setting up.

I'll take a run in it if its there. My coworker is interested in driving it as well. He's a novice autocrosser, is there any problem with that?

BTW, I smell a competition (with some wagers) brewing here. . .

That brings up an interesting question. My initial thought is no driving of the Tesla if you are a novice, but welcome to ride. I'm not willing to take that risk on car that expensive w/ a novice driver. Stay tuned, I'm sure the other VP's will jump in here.

begs the question though of what criteria make you a novice or not? I'm sure he'd sign up for open class instead of novice if it was the difference in driving the Tesla or not.

They don't require any credentials other than a valid drivers license to rent it to people normally, and we don't require any credentials to autocross a car, where is the disconnect? To be fair, it sounded iffy a bit to me, which is why I asked the question, I'm just trying to work through the logic here. Sounds like its the call of the owners of the car rather than the clubs call there, unless of course the club is taking on some of the liability associated with this. If the novice were to wreck the Tesla, that would be between the wrecker and the car owner, unless somehow the setup of the course could be blamed for the accident. . .

Rodney - can you comment on when these on-course laps will happen during each day? For instance, do you this being incorporated into the normal run groups, or having a mid-day break during the event, or running it after the normal autocross run groups are done for the day (or . . .) ?

We'll just plug the car into the event as we can and as folks sign up to drive/ride. Not planning on setting aside a special time. Assuming our normal 4 run groups, the car should run 6+ times per run group. The tesla folks say the car can run for about 3 hours straight. I think this is the easiest way to handle getting runs in.

I'll bring this question up the Tesla owners and let them decide where their comfort zone is. I'll try to get hold of them this weekend and post back as soon as I hear.
