ya, my 62.8 was when I stayed in 2nd and drove on the rev limiter thru the lane change...I should have tried staying in 2nd on Sunday. My best on Sunday, going to 3rd was a 63.1

My video...bad camera location and mount.

Man Ram, you slowed down way too much for the cbox on the runway and were a bit late in a few places.....I think you had high 61s in ya :).

Where was the camera mounted?

Ram, after watching your run... I realize that I still need to work out the understeer in my car. Your car has some great turn in! Maybe that's just a Miata trait.

I think i should have stayed in 2nd more too because my car has... negative torque... in 3rd gear unless you are at 6+k. It was nice to experience some 3rd gear'ness. The course was very well layed out and flowing, definitely my favorite of all the events I've been to this year, including the zMax event that CCR put on in Feb. Everything went really well except for all red flags the last heat - luckily the sun was behind the clouds so it wasn't as bad as it could have been.

It's going to be hard for the next Sanford event to top this one!

Here is my fastest run from Sunday in the RX8: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQlECkwamOw

I think it should be pointed out that Mr Carter was on fire this weekend. Using what other regions uses for street tire index (97.5%), Steve would have been just behind Steve Westerfield for #2 pax by a tenth or two :).

Maybe subconsciously I designed this course for my old car.....not my current car ;).

Thanks James...I appreciate the props. I think I disagree about course design favoring the WRX, seeing as the top cars were (a) Miatas (b) S2000s and/or (c) driven by excellent drivers. I think the course favored the driver who kept up the momentum, particularly from the lane change through the sweeper (especially entering the sweeper). I only drove well because the slalom spacing was favorable, I was quite focused and fairly angry during my runs. "Eff it," I thought. "They're only cones."

I think (a) and (b) are immaterial to my point as you are in a D stock car on street tires :).

I think gearing (ie where are you shifting to 3rd....if at all) was relatively important on this course. So yeah the momentum mobiles on race tires are going to be fast because they never had to brake. But the long gearing of the WRX coupled with good power and a course that allows you to stay in boost between 4k and 7k rpms all the time (other than the early turn around). I could easily imagine 62/63s in your car if you were on r comps.

It's hard to compare with gearing being different etc, but I tried 2nd gear only on my first run Saturday and there is no way it was faster for me. (at least I think not) I was banging (not just easing into) the rev limiter from the element right before the lane change - gave it a slight break with a breath for the C box and then downshift for the fan. I should have tried staying in 2nd longer on the taxiway I think. I also weinered out a bit on some of the boxes and if I could just make my hands go faster and have initiated my turn a smidge earlier I could have run flatout from the turn around to the fan.

Great course.

Just an update but I have requested that a representative from the V Foundation attend our next meeting on August 10th at Blincos to receive the monies raised at our event. Pending a few odds and ends to be reimbursed and possibly the additions of a few other donation checks, it's looking like we will be donating at least $4200 to the V Foundation this year!

As Rodney mentioned, the attendance wasn't as great as in years passed, but there was an unfortunate scheduling of 2 major autocross events on the same weekend within a 2 hour range of Sanford. However, participation in the raffle, sales of pint glasses, sales of food, bracket races, cash donations etc far made up for the lack of attendance and we will actually exceed last years total donation. This will push us over $37k raised in the last 7 years. Bravo.

James, that's great news! It's fantastic that we've had seven years of successful THSCC Jimmy V events.

Here are my runs, all except for my DNF
https://picasaweb.google.com/xak944/201 ... Autocross5

I'm not sure how anyone could run that course on moderately sticky tires and not use 3rd gear. I thought the AP1 gearing was long, so I can't fathom a Miata or anything else for that matter staying in 2nd. :-?

Great weekend, great weather, great course (best of the year IMO). I wish I could go back and re-live the whole weekend! :D
