Big thanks to everyone who came out on set-up day and helped us n00bs with our first course design. :-P I'm pretty happy with how things turned out, and even happier that the NCCAR folks invited us to come back!

Speaking of which, those guys were cool (Sam, and I can't remember the other guy's name... :stick:). That combined with their planned 250% expansion in size of the VDA (the current 2 acres to be expanded to 7 acres as I understand it) would definitely make it our best site. Looks like good things are afoot for the future of THSCC autocross!
:woo:

Great job with course design; I hated the pivot cone, but it was a crowd-pleaser whenever Kevin was on course. Everything else flowed really well and was easy to read; I got positive comments from a couple of novices about the clarity. Thanks for chairing!

That's because pivot cones suck. Sometimes you can't make a decent length course without them. Or if you're like Kevin(giant douche) and you actually enjoy(dominate) them.

Great course though. Big thanks to everyone that made it happen.

I had a great time- good course design, and wow -that's the best pavement I can ever recall at an autocross site! Thank you Zach and Noah for hosting, and thank you to everybody involved in securing the site!

I was amazed at the grip levels when I launched for my first run. I have to launch almost as hard as I do at Laurinburg.

The site definitely isn't HUGE, but its big enough, has nice runoff room, and the quality of pavement REALLY is a big plus.

There is definitely plenty of space to not have a pivot, it would just require doubling the course over itself a bit, which would be a no-no with a noon start time. They also had to have a course that was easily convertable from shorter, EV course to longer AX course. I thought that despite those tough constraints on a new site, our course designers did an excellent job.

Good job Noah/Zach. I liked the course minus a pivot, but again it's because I'm not good at them :).

For future events, I can see starting even farther down the runway/track and the track is wide enough to all for some non-slalom elements too. Could have a C box or some offsets etc.

Excellent job on that pivot cone Chris! Nice entry setup maximizing the pavement, super braking job and really nice back-siding-that-cone power on exit. Well done.

Just a few comments,

> first the pivot cone.... not my favorite element, but we needed to do something to extend the course since we had to minimize setup time from the EV event to ours.
> grip....wow.... even on crappy 5year old RE01's, the car stuck in place, amazing.
> to Zach, Noah and Les, our Chairs and GM respectfully, thanks for a great setup!
> to everyone else, thanks for setting an excellent example for THSCC! We are welcome back to the site per comments of Simon Cobb and Sam True. Sam stated this was of the most fun events they've seen and they want us back, so great job everyone!!!
> trash, I think we did a good job overall, so thanks to everyone for taking that extra effort to keep the site clean
> logistics, this was an interesting site and presented a bit of challenge in regard to the course and the pits considering the access road. We may have to consider using the wireless speaker up in the pits so we can keep everyone informed.
> SMARTT volunteers. THANK YOU!!!!! I've received nothing but positive comments from Eric Ryan in how we ran the event and our support of the students.

Overall this was a great event and I'm very proud to be president of this club.

In regard to the NCCAR site, I was told by Sam they are contemplating some early modifications to the site prior to expanding the VDA which will increase our course options, so stay tuned for more information!

+1 to all the above. Great course, great surface, great driving by a lot of people this weekend! Thanks for putting in so much effort to get this done, and done well. Seems like we still got 400+ runs done in well under five hours, so with a 10 am (or earlier) start time we should do quite well there in the future.

Some of you people need to drop the anti-pivot-cone attitude and learn how to pull a handbrake. It will reward you with more fun and faster times (although to get the faster times, you'd have to sacrifice a little tire spin - which I rarely feel like doing). And before somebody says it, there are no flat spots on any of my tires. So you really have no excuses other than being closed-minded. Or in Marcus' case, a megadouche.

Good course for the space we had; liked the pivot cone once I switched to a car with a working handbrake, liked the curved braking zone for the box. Never got enough patience or good enough timing with brake/gas/steering for the tight crap.

Thanks.

Here is my video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfcjXRa3 ... rofilepage

I am braking too soon and turning in too early on the pivot meaning late to get back on the throttle at exit and in doing so frustrated me to the point of being late and too aggressive on the offsets towards the finish.

Had a great time and the novices with me did as well. It was a straight forward course for them to know where to go, but left room for me to try to teach them 'how' to go. I was happy that we were able to squeeze out 5 runs with an abbreviated schedule. While there were a few logistical snags, I think overall it went very well. The elevated spectator area was excellent. It reminded me of an event at the Winston-Salem fairgrounds where you could spectate from the grandstand.

NCCAR site is certainly a great piece of asphalt. Without the EV car restrictions we will definitely be able to set up a longer course there next time and do some things differently though I personally really like the long fast slalom and even the pivot cone. In regards to the mostly unpopular pivot cone, I told folks that it was just as wide there as Danville taxiway where we have done many pivot cones, however from my rough google satellite image measurements it does look like it is about a foot narrower and most people were only going off by that much so I guess that extra foot made all the difference. Regardless I like pivot cones because I think they are a good test of proper patience and skill, especially when I remember I'm in a Miata without ABS. I doubt I was ever within 3 feet of the grass on exit of that pivot cone yesterday and yes I was in a Miata, but I doubt I would have had trouble in a vette either. I rarely have trouble with pivot cones as long as I get my early braking done and get slowed down enough to not push out on exit, this is the key, where most people were pushing out and dropping a tire off I was already pointed in the right direction and full throttle in first gear. Most times if I had a passenger, they probably could have reached out the window and picked up the pivot cone. Anyway, it will be up to future ECs and GM whether or not do that there again, if it is done again, I think we should maximize it a little more and make the pivot much further down and have some other course element on the track before that to extend the track distance and possibly make the pain of the pivot more worthwhile.

Thanks again to Kendt for letting me drive his truly "smurfalicious" Miata. That much Hoosier and a nicely set up Miata on a course like yesterday's is one helluva lot of fun, I'd forgotten just how much fun a Miata can be. The only thing that could have made the day more fun, not hitting that stupid cone that jumped out in front of me on that 33.5XX run costing me the FTD. :x Congrats must go out to Matt though for wheeling the shite out of his Civic, total domination of PAX and raw, great job man, your "#1" as I told you yesterday. :D
