I am braking too soon and turning in too early on the pivot meaning late to get back on the throttle at exit and in doing so frustrated me to the point of being late and too aggressive on the offsets towards the finish.

Wow, I can really see you turning early. It makes me wonder what I'm doing. I might have to try to rig up a mount for the next event.

NCCAR site is certainly a great piece of asphalt. Without the EV car restrictions we will definitely be able to set up a longer course there next time and do some things differently though I personally really like the long fast slalom and even the pivot cone. In regards to the mostly unpopular pivot cone, I told folks that it was just as wide there as Danville taxiway where we have done many pivot cones, however from my rough google satellite image measurements it does look like it is about a foot narrower and most people were only going off by that much so I guess that extra foot made all the difference. Regardless I like pivot cones because I think they are a good test of proper patience and skill, especially when I remember I'm in a Miata without ABS. I doubt I was ever within 3 feet of the grass on exit of that pivot cone yesterday and yes I was in a Miata, but I doubt I would have had trouble in a vette either. I rarely have trouble with pivot cones as long as I get my early braking done and get slowed down enough to not push out on exit, this is the key, where most people were pushing out and dropping a tire off I was already pointed in the right direction and full throttle in first gear. Most times if I had a passenger, they probably could have reached out the window and picked up the pivot cone. Anyway, it will be up to future ECs and GM whether or not do that there again, if it is done again, I think we should maximize it a little more and make the pivot much further down and have some other course element on the track before that to extend the track distance and possibly make the pain of the pivot more worthwhile.

Thanks again to Kendt for letting me drive his truly "smurfalicious" Miata. That much Hoosier and a nicely set up Miata on a course like yesterday's is one helluva lot of fun, I'd forgotten just how much fun a Miata can be. The only thing that could have made the day more fun, not hitting that stupid cone that jumped out in front of me on that 33.5XX run costing me the FTD. :x Congrats must go out to Matt though for wheeling the shite out of his Civic, total domination of PAX and raw, great job man, your "#1" as I told you yesterday. :D

I agrree with /\

I used to hate pivots too until I got it through my think skull that that extra 5 feet of accelleration will not gain me anything and will cost me time so slow down and be against the cone. I never had a problem getting around it although my $#$%^&*(##^ car was so slow that not much braking was required. That first cone after the turnaround was pivotal in being able to keep the power on through the finish.

This was a great track setup for a noob like me since it seemed pretty easy to follow but had all of the elements that show me how much I suck. I took a little video so I could watch myself sucking so take a look and tell me why I suck so much so maybe someday I might be less suckey. In all seriousness I had a great time and just wanted to say thanks for all of the hard work everybody put into making this an awesome event. But seriously tell me how to suck less.

Chris, when you *think* you need to turn.....you really needed to turn the steering wheel 500ms or more sooner. Your steering inputs were VERY late. Also, after a turn around, unwind the wheel, don't release it and let it self correct as longitudinal grip is low when you just release the wheel. Basically you need to work on staying on throttle longer and turning earlier (ie understeering around the elements).

try it in an automatic. very eye-opening. you have all day waiting for the car to get back into the element and move forward with your run.

E90 chassis is the Fo-Shizzle BTW.

FYI, Beware The Kid. she has tasted blood, there is no turning back. 8)

So is she coming back? Nothing like getting the 16yo out beating her dad on the AX course.

Very cool! I think my wife Therese is in the same boat.

"So, when's the next Sanford event?" She asked during dinner the other night. We'll be co-driving on Saturday of the Jimmy V event and breaking the cardinal rule of novices not running race tires most likely.

Or she has her tire boy change the tires and then change back

Matt is just fishing for reasons that he'd need a new set of A6s before year end: "honey remember that time you pushed really badly into the turn around?" ;).

Nicely played James!

Turns out I'm only going to be able to make the actual Jimmy V Sunday event and working Saturday, missing the chance to learn me some rwd on A6's. Bummer...
