I'm shopping for some rcomps to run in CSP.

The only wheels I have are OEM 15x6's. I'm trying to avoid having to buy another set unless I necessarily have to. Light weight 6uls are expensive :(

I know the CS guys put 225's on 6" wheels. Should I do that? How much handling am I giving up by doing this? I heard Ventus Z214's have a stiff side wall.

My other options would be to get 205's or buy wider wheels for 225's

The R-S3 says 7" minimum rim width. I wouldn't gamble with it.

They'll definitely mount up fine, they just won't be ideal from a contact patch. - AB

RS-3s are street tires aren't applicable to what Ram's asking :).

I'm sure Donnie/Charlie could chime in :).

Keep in mind the CS guys only do it because it's their only option. Stock class doesn't let them change their wheel widths. It would likely work but it's not going to be ideal.

Although, I'd take the recommended wheel widths with a grain of salt. I'd imaging a significant percentage of AX cars are running outside of the recommended widths. I'm an inch over what Kuhmo recommends for the V710. NT-01s have been proven faster on 9" wheels than 8" wheels, on Miatas, even though Nitto only recommends up to a 8.5" wheel. F-stock had some huge tires on not so huge wheels last year.

Double that. I have 205's on 7" wheels, (thanks Ryan) I have 225's that I am mounting on 8" wheels.

yeah, recommended tire widths are a guide. I run 225's on a 6.5" wheel without big issues. As others have said, its not ideal, it just depends on how much $ you are trying to spend. If you went and bought the wider wheels, you MIGHT pick up what, half a second on a 60 second course, if that?

Ram,

Forget the Z214s, waste of money. Get these, they'll fit the rims, and the cost is much better. Sticker Tires

Lightweight wheels and sticky tires costs $$$$. We'll sell you Robs Azenis at a good price. I drove on them this weekend at the Novice school. They are awesome slicks now!!! I think Rob said $60 but I bet I could get him to sell them to you, Andrew, or Colin for maybe $50.

Hell no, petrified. Anything I can do to slow these guys down is all good... You can show them that special over-driving technique you were talking about...

Our Miata runs 225/45/15 Hoosiers on the Volk 15x6 wheels. Wider rims would be ideal but the car is lots of fun to drive with this combination.

I was shocked a couple of years ago to see the FS Shelby GTs and Mustang GTs at a ProSolo running 295/30-18 Hoosiers on 8.5" wide rims. In 2009 I bought 275/35s - wanted a little taller gearing, and was told this size would wear better. When it came time to buy new tires last year, Tire Rack was all out 275s, so, what the heck! In profile, the 295's sidewall looks like a question mark, which is just weird. They do provide an extra inch of contact patch width, and maybe that contributed to my early season success last year. On the bad side, the shoulders wear faster. I've got a little over 50 runs on the ones I bought last spring, and I corded one yesterday. The others will follow suit soon.

Ram - since you're in CSP, keep shopping for a good price on some wider rims and then go with the 225s or whatever you can stuff into the wheelwells.
