Students:

You need to be at the Laurinburg site by 8am on Saturday. Your car will need to be teched, and there will be a short driver's meeting as well as you will have to pay and get to meet your instructor etc. The earlier you get there the more track time you'll get. We will start on course no later than 10am and if we can beat that we can get more track time. If we are late, we will have to cut sessions short as we have a hard stop in order to get the course set up for the event on Sunday.

Please feel free to PM me with questions.

Rob

Registration is now closed as we have hit our cap! Let's get a few more instructors on board though!

In looking at Saturday's forecast, there's a good chance for rain and strong winds. Might want to get the word out to have the appropriate rain gear and have some contingent plans for lunch in case it's raining.

So, uh, I'm looking at the forecast too. It's not just rain, it's "heavy thunderstorms" from the morning through the afternoon (http://goo.gl/WA6Jr). Sunny and beautiful on Sunday, at least. This could make for a quite miserable and unproductive school if the forecast holds true. I know it's late, but is postponing the school even an option? Are there any ideas for making it still work in the middle of a thunderstorm?

Nope :).

Learning to drive 'quickly' in the rain can make you awfully fast when it is dry. Rain doesn't hide much ;).

Honestly, I don't believe weather forecasts....ever. Particularly on autox days as 10% chances of rain generally means a lot or 100% chance of rain means a 15 minute shower.

The system is coming from the west. A lot can change coming over the Appalachian mountains.

See everyone in the morning :).

I'm sure it'll end up being 72F and sunny all day!

I'll leave this up the novice school cordinators, but I'm starting to agree on a reschedule. According to WRAL

>>>>>>>>>
Skies stay overcast for much of the day, with strong or severe thunderstorms possible for the mid-day and afternoon hours. Highs in the lower 70s, with breezy southeasterly winds changing to southwesterly by the evening.

next opportunity is in June in Danville. If you're going to cancel, do it now and inform everyone of your plans. Folks can either get a refund or credit for the next school.

Laurinburg: Alert Windy with scattered thunderstorms in the morning - storms becoming more widespread and possibly severe in the afternoon. Storms may produce large hail and strong winds.

Looking at the forecast if it were up to me I would postpone it, however it is James' call. Keep in mind that though our policy is to run through rain, we do not run if there is lightning, that is just too big of a risk.

Every forecast for Laurinburg says THUNDERSTORMS, and a thunderstorm by definition means lightning. I have a feeling we woudn't be doing much driving tomorrow considering the rule Les pointed out.

And it's not a matter of the actual driving; I agree that part would be fine and can even be educational to learn car control on a wet course. I'm thinking of the course workers, everyone in the pits, all of our belongings getting soaked (tarps and canopies ain't gonna cut it), etc.

The forecast even lists chance of tornados. To my knowledge, there is basically no shelter for miles of the airport. There have been reports of severe damage from tornados in Mississippi and Alabama from this same storm.

It sucks. I want to drive and teach at this school just as much as everyone else does. But I just don't think this is practical or safe unless the forecast changes drastically tonight, which is not very likely.
