That's true and he's one of the few exceptions, granted they certainly weren't an OTS application. - AB

Bilsteins are also one of the few shocks that you can actually revalve yourself with minimal effort, too. If you want to get into that sort of thing. You will need a dyno close by, though.

There are some racers out there with non-adjustable Bilsteins that revalve as needed (not in autocross settings, mind you, but at the track for sure).

Almost all Bilsteins are adjustable. Just not with a knob.

Supposedly they just introduced an adjuster this year

I got very excited when I saw it at the SEMA show last fall so I sent the following email to Bilstein several months ago:

"Hi, Did I see Bilstein had a fixed perch adjustable B6 at the 2010 SEMA show? I'm very interested in an application for the S197 Mustang for Autocross and Road Race. Any info is appreciated. Thanks!"

And got the following response (after it was forwarded around several departments):

"What the customer is describing sounds like a prototype BMW strut that we displayed out there at SEMA. Basically it was like a Sport strut but with a single adjustable setup on it. I checked with Scott and as of right now that project is stuck in neutral so I don’t expect to see anything like that anytime soon unfortunately. The domestic lines (like the Mustang and Camaro) were not targeted for potential applications like this at least at the startup of the program development. Bottom line, we don’t have anything to offer for what he’s looking for at this time."

Major Bummer! I think there is definitely a market for an OTS alternative to Koni . . . maybe someday.

Hell I can't get someone at Bilstein East or West on the phone that gives a flying shit about what I'm asking :). They are pretending like working out a custom application is impossible and has never been done.

Hey Cash, what email address did you email about the adjustable sports?

The 7th gen Civic has bolt in, monotube front struts and rear shocks. The 8th gen is going on 5.5 years old and there is nothing for it. How long after a new chassis hits the market does Bilstein usually get the ball rolling? I guess from 89-00 they really didn't have to change anything on the Civic, CRX or Integra other than valving.

This is the guy who ultimately responded:

Keith Robertson

704-663-7585 fax
keith.robertson@bilsteinUS.com; keith.robertson@thyssenkrupp.com

I never spoke to him, but looks like a Charlotte area code. Good luck!

FYI, my 2nd set of rears are clunking. Matt's actually make the same noise but to a lesser degree. I found 2 other people online who have the same symptoms. So we are bombarding koni with emails, video, sound clips pictures.

Lee is convinced it is external/mounting problems. I've put rubber washers between all pieces of the top mountings and it still happens. It actually gets 'better' (ie less noticeable) as you increase the rebound, worse on full soft. However, the shocks seem to work, well at that, but the noise makes my car sound like a hunk of garbage. My wife's friend who ran the 10 miler with us this week, whose Camry had 18-20 psi in all 4 tires because she doesn't care for her car, commented on the 'loose parts' in the back of my car this weekend....ironic eh?

But in other news, e46 rear Bilstein B6 shocks work on my car! Just have to shorten the lower eye bushing pin by 4-5mm. Who around here can revalve them? :)

Steward Development is in Triad. They are big in the Miata crowd, not sure if they've done anything on late model Civics.

James, thanks to Donnie, I have a dyno of my koni's so I know exactly the FvV curves I'm looking for :).

Remind me never to have James drive the STi. After a full rebuild of all of my AST's, it clunks and bumps over even the most minor road imperfection. What am I doing about it? Nothing. I know the shocks are working, so I really don't care. - AB

You also don't drive your car on the road except to and from events.
