Also, for liability reasons, is it better to have all of the safety stuff in the driver's meeting. One option would be to post the full safety info on the side of the bus in addition to what is said that the meetings. From a liability perspective, this may give us a better case.

Yes, this is why unfortunately we need to go over some of the important safety things. Some people are either too vain or too wanna-be-macho to go to the novice walk (ie someone like Remchak). THESE are the people that need to hear the cone call rules, radio communication and safety stuff the most. Plus as Chris said, these novices walks are not required and furthermore, even if they were, some people don't run NOV even when they truly are. So if there is a bit of redundancy between the novice walk and the drivers meeting, well so it goes.

Keep in mind these novices call in YOUR runs. Do you really want to lose your best run because a hot shot first timer wrongly called in a +1?

Drivers meetings suck but I think ours are as fast as they can be. Yes for some its alot of stuff they already know but you just have to do them.

why would a novice have a radio in their hand James? if ya'll can't get a grasp on course control i would strongly suggest you shorten your courses so that there is an experienced person at every station for every worker shift.

so the main concern here is an incorrect cone call? you slick whistles are competing at such a high level these days that one incorrect cone call might cost you a season's points trophy?

i have been gone for way too long apparently. why back in my day we would get out of our vehicle and verbally abuse and potentially physically assault a novice if they were to foul a cone call.

you bunch of wussies gots no clue how to run a proper autoX.

yeh, this is all real funny until someone gets run over because they turn their back to the cars on course or a collision occurs because none of the noobies know WTF a red flag is or how to properly use a red flag.

cone calls? really? get over yourselves............... safety, safety, safety. :soap:

Steve,

Novices should not have the radio. However, novices frequently are the ones running to reset cones and, in turn, signal to the experienced person with the radio. And in being SAFE, we have the course workers far enough from the course that sometimes the person on the radio can't always tell if it was truly a cone call or how many until the novice cone shagger signals back to them. So if a nicked cone that is still touching the box is called in by a novice who didn't attend the novice walk, and there is no mentioning on cone call education during the drivers meeting, then they will likely signal to the radio person a false positive.

Well an idea just popped into my head that we instruct those at each worker station with experience to go back over the cone call info with the novices working at said station so everyone is on the same level.

One thing I think we need to emphasize the most is pointer cones getting hit. We mark a triangular 'box' around them only so course workers know where to reset them, but they should not get called as a cone call and I know that happens frequently nonetheless.

So, if I bring my renewal sheet and $50 next week to the bus for registration can I handle that all in one shot?
