Dennis is a tool. Motons and AST's are certainly not crap. There are too many National Champions rolling around on them for them to be crap. - AB

You aren't reading what he is saying, he never had the opportunity to test Moton's, JRZ's, ect... so he won't comment. I actually kinda like that.

Dennis is certainly an odd sort.

He said he never dyno'd them and that's why he did not put them on his good list. I did not see where he said they were crap.

I didn't read the whole document, just the statement that "if it's not on the list, then it's crap".

Regardless, Dennis Grant is an over-analyzing tool :) If he could drive as good he does his analysis on autocross, he would have been more successful ;) - AB

imagine, the words "a Tool" and "autocross" in the same sentence. sorry, i couldn't resist.

Koni has long had a reputation for premature failure. but at what percentage of overall users is the failure rate? you never really hear about the good results on the Intrawebs just the horror stories.

I love his website though :). Helped me ramp up my over analyzing tool-i-ness as it relates to autox ;).

FWIW, I've had the Dinan valved Konis with Dinan springs on the M5 now for about 5 years and maybe ~20k miles. Obviously not a lot of miles, but so far, knock on wood, no issues of any kind.

Speaking of JRZ Dinan sold, they performed great apparently, but many people had issues with them after not too many miles, and Dinan had a horrendous time with replacements, etc, so I think they dropped them completely now.

Aside from the early production problems like James had, OTS Konis are rock solid. What I think most people don't understand is that adjustable shocks aren't setup to be driven a ton of miles... and the custom double adjustables like Moton/AST/Penske are really designed for race applications only and really shouldn only see very little street miles. - AB

Don't forget "trailer miles" for race only shocks unless you rigidly tie the race car down with no suspension movement.

Depending on how you strap it down, yes. - AB

Ummmm, I disagree. How about Art, were his OTS konis that leaked with less than a single season of use?

Didn't know anything about Art's condition, but as a Koni hater, I am not surprised you posted

I bet they replaced them under warrantee without issue too. - AB

How does that change the fact that they are not rock solid?

While Art may have had an issue, think about how many autocrossers I know in the 10+ years of autocrossing I've done that run OTS Konis with no issues. Hell, I think Art had no issues with his Konis on his Fox body Mustang.

I see it as an anomaly. You bought a set of used shocks and are still bitter that they wouldn't warrantee them. :) - AB

I asked Lee about warranty on mine given all the problems I had. I told him quite clearly that I would be using them for autox and daily driving and that my car is a 3100lb pig. He clearly told me that so long as I'm the owner of that car that they'll fix them. He did have to preface that with the 'standard' 10 week return rate ;).
