Not in 245/40/17 at the moment. DT said they could get it from another vendor in a week or something but they'd be expensive and they couldn't price match TR. But Kumho told them 6-9 weeks.

Tire rack said 90 day minimum backorder and then they came back that they could have some from Korea in 6 weeks.

So I'm going to get in the queue for both and go with who ever gets them sooner. DT and TR said they'd not charge me until they have them in their possession and ready to ship.

I can't imagine how bad it is for cars that are hard on tires.

It's best not to think about the cost, but focus on the fun. (That said, I'm looking for sources of "lightly used" A6s or R6s for when my current A6s are done.)

Thanks -- Mike W sent me that URL the other day. Have you ordered anything from them?

I also found this posting on BMW forum: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showth ... p?t=511833

Is Bob Chick still in business? (See the RC Enterprises sponsor entry on http://thscc.com/general/info/sponsors.html )

I have not ordered from JohnBTires, remember I am street tired douchebag.

I talked to Bob Chick a few years ago and was very helpful in finding tires but its been awhile.

I called Bob Chick this week - he had some 295/30-18 R6 take-offs from a PCA weekend last fall. Supposed to be well over 50% tread. $70 each + shipping. We'll see how good they are.

My r comps will be here 3/9....few days after the Triad event.....any advice about getting the mold release compound off them before our first points event? Should I just put them on and slalom through the neighborhood :).

I'm not a big fan of heat cycling or "removing" the mold release compound. Just mount them up for the first event and your first run will get rid of it all.

Others won't agree with me, but it's worked for 50+ sets of tires I've bought since starting this in 2000. - AB

Yep, I know I've read in Brice's thread way back when MJ got r comps for the Mini that you said that too about heat cycling. But I know my star specs were pretty greasy when I first got them. Maybe a slick tire doesn't have as much mold release compound as a treaded tire. Thanks.

For my first 8-10 sets of r compounds I bought, I mounted up at home drove them up and down Route 1, weaving and bobbing until I got them up to 130 degrees via a infrared pyrometer.

After doing a number of National Tours/ProSolos and watching the best of the best mounting up brand new sticker tires on Day 2 of an event and extend their lead, it became clear to me that what I was doing was a waste of time.

That said, it won't hurt you to do it, but I think it'd be better to save your time. - AB

Anyone hear of or use onlinetires.com?

They might actually have stock of the size I want and the price is a LOT cheaper than TR and DT and even with shipping from the west coast, works out in my favor.

Don't use them! They told me that they had stock in the size V710 I needed last August when I was going to co-drive with Gwen and then it turned out they needed to source the tires from somewhere else and 6 weeks later still no tires I cancelled the order only to get charged a re-stocking fee that they refused to refund despite being told I would have the tires within 2 weeks of the initial purchase date.

Yeah, I read a few reviews of this nature. I'm going to request that someone go to the warehouse, get me a stock number off the sticker of a 245/40/17 and then only proceed once I have that info :). Plus AMEX would rip them a new ___hole for me if they pulled something like that.

Thanks.

Regardless of the cost differential, I wouldn't give a company like that any business. At least with TireRack you're supporting a major sponsor of autocross. - AB

I completely agree with Aaron with this. The only reason I went this route was because it was just over a month before Nationals and we needed the tires for Nats with Tire Rack and Discount Tire both not able to get them. I will never order tires from anyplace other than the above mentioned places ever again because of that experience.

Yes, I understand and would likely not go this route other than the timeframe part. TR/DT are telling me mid March and while I hope they'd be conservative with their estimates so it is more of a worst case date, I'm not too sure I trust that I'll have them by our first event.

If this place has them in stock and can get them out to me well prior, then I'd like to go that route. I really would like to go to a TnT or Triads early March event on race rubber so I can ease my way into them. But we'll see.

If these are V710's, well, see my earlier comment about TireRack not having them, then no one will have them. I hope that's not the case, but my guess is that it is. - AB

So I bailed on the V710s in favor of Hankook Z214s C51s. Discount Tire really kicked Tire Racks butt this go round. Even with paying sales tax and mandatory environment fees, DT matched TR and can have them to me in less than 2 weeks.
