Just a couple minor corrections: You must have your car teched prior to practice starts if you want to do them, you do not need to have all your decals in place for tech or starts, but they will be checked in each impound session for both presence and correct placement, as well as optional compliance with contingency marking requirements. Some of the required stickers are free, there are a couple SCCA ones they charge 1.00 each for. They do not usually have the contingency decals so get them prior to the event. All required decals are available at the tech trailer, bring extra magnetic sheet and scissors if you don't want to stick them on the paint. If you do not have or have a friend you can "borrow" a rule book from to show at registration, they are available for purchase during registration. You do not need to purchase a prosolo license until your second event each season. Be sure you are registered as a novice at your first event, there is a prize given to the highest finishing novice. Practice starts cost 10.00 for 6 starts or 2.00 each. Registration usually opens after starts, and there is often some kind of welcome party/food/refreshments during registration on Fri eve. Tasha did the novice orientation on Fri eve at Topeka, but that may have been because of the heavy rain predicted for Sat.
Be sure to arrive early on Sat/Sun so that you can have your car ready to go before call to grid or to work and get a couple more walk thrus. Be sure you check the first group to grid and the FCO times for both days, they start EARLY! It is likely to be just four run groups, and you will be assigned to work for two of them, two out of the three sessions over the weekend. Your work assignment will be given to you at registration. Be SURE you know when you are supposed to be working and get to your station on time as the guy you're relieving probably has to get his car to grid/pregrid and run while you're working. There is usually a lunch break of 20-30 min between the AM and PM sessions on Sat the course will also be open for walking then. Try to partner up with someone experienced in your run group so they can show you how to deal with pregrid/grid. Be sure to report to pregrid on time, you can be protested for arriving late.
Be sure to go directly to impound after each set of runs, open your hood and trunk and DO NOT LEAVE until your class has been dismissed by chief of impound, NO MATTER WHAT anyone else does! You may not leave your car unattended in impound, you or your representative must be present with your car. On Sunday, if you finish high enough in your class to have a shot at making the challenge session, you will be directed to a second impound area where the car must remain until dismissed for not making the final cut or called to grid at the start of the challenge rounds. You CANNOT make ANY changes to the car except air pressure while your car is in the challenge impound. If you do not make the challenge, there will be a hat at the tech trailer to put your name in for a random drawing of 8 people to run in the bonus challenge. In the bonus challenge your handicap is based on the average time for YOUR best two runs, so even the slowest person at the event has a chance to win the bonus challenge if they can match but not exceed that average time.
Things happen very quickly at a pro, by what may seem like correographed chaos!
