I agree. Actually, it was not tight at all. The course design, while taken from the Nat's course map, was much more open than the elements were in Lincoln - so, a flavor, but not an outright copy. My best time was 56.3, my high end of 2nd is 56mph, and I was on the limiter 3 times. I left so much out there too, just being too hot into the sweepers, etc.
There's sooooo much room there that they could add 30 seconds to the course without batting an eye. There are 2 problems with that at this time, however. #1-we only had 61 drivers and were forced into having only 2 run groups just to cover worker assignments for so few drivers. A longer course requires more worker stations. #2-part of the reason they get these great sites (free) is that they do Military Only Novice school the Saturday before. A little over 25 % of the Sunday drivers were Saturday students. They want to keep the course simple enough for those guys to not be completely lost.
To any of you who would like to attend, and who don't hear about it in time, Brad Draughon's name is always on Myautoevents.com. You can email him and he'll leave your name at the gate. Also, I'll try to be more diligent on posting upcoming events there. Or, just PM me and I'll try to take care of you. They just give the entry list to the gate. I gave my name and car # and was on my way. It's no more disruptive than having to stop and sign in at any other event. That, by the way, you do at registration when you pay.
All in all, a great opportunity to try a different site and have a great time. I'll tell you something else too; spending a day watching these Marines having that much fun is worth the trip!
